Stolen Wheels

nissan should should start using some kind of individually serial # for each set wheels or something. something to identify that set of wheels. and if your crazy enough to buy a stolen set of wheels then shame on you. if you get caught with stolen wheels then pay the price.

Great idea! Although they would just scratch the serial engraving off?

They most likely would, but it would deter thieves from selling them online, making it that more difficult. Maybe a law could be enacted where it would be a crime to possess goods with scratched of seriel numbers.

Yeah that won't happen. Apple won't even disclose information regarding an iPod that was stolen and re-registered. Apple will say just buy a new one. It's the owners responsibility to keep them from being stolen and that is what insurance is for.

Nothing detracts thieves. A thief is a thief, they just work harder. They will keep selling rims, stealing cars with tracking and alarms, stealing from banks with cameras and alarms, etc. I can't tell u how many MacBook pros on Craigslist I see ads for that are stolen. I called one up a fees weeks ago and asked can I have the serial number so I can verify the details of the laptop and who it's registered to and the guy goes, 'why u need that info. U don't need it'. I told him I did and he hung up. When a person buys it, apple could easily track down the laptop for the original owner, but they never will.

This is one of the reasons certain people hate apple. People aren't sheep.

Isn't there software that tracks it down (macbook) for you if its stolen?

I'm not sure about MacBook? But there is one for my Dell Inspiron. It's called LoJack. Basically, the chip is install in the motherboard and tracks your exact location. The only way someone can remove it, is by getting a new motherboard.

Btw, this whole thread just pissed me off. Now, I don't feel like parking anywhere that isn't protected by surveillance cameras. Fml. and just like a Texan, if I caught the guy, I would shoot him and save the gov't their money and other victims' wheels.

There is a law. It's called recieving stolen property. I know a thief will scratch off the numbers, but as a buyer would you still by it? who wants those type of problems. If the police pulled you over with stolen wheels, they should have the right to take the wheels of your car just the way it happened to the victim.

Unfortunately, this kind of stuff happens all the time and more advanced anti-theft measurements just makes more advanced thieves.

Tilt sensor-they just use more than one jack and lift the whole car at once. It's easier than you think.
Back-up batteries-they cut those too

Think about it. There are write-ups all over the internet that show you how to install/uninstall just about every part imaginable on a car.

I actually heard of a guy at a big party in Houston who had his wheels and sound system stolen. He actually had tilt sensor, battery backup, multiple sirens, etc, etc. The thief was kind enough to remove the alarm brain entirely and leave it in the passenger seat.

I guess the question I have is why would you want OEM wheels versus a nice set of custom rims? Makes no sense. Its like software and encryption algorithms. The harder companies make them, the quicker they are compromised.

Just a reminder: once the weather is warmer, wheel thieves are out on the prowl. Even Mr Bond will have to think twice. Check your wheel locks.
