stock radio swap

Not plug and play at all. You need to change out the entire radio, and it's a huge PITA. Most people just go aftermarket with a Pioneer screen, etc. which is the cheaper route....

Thanks guys I was about to buy a factory head unit from eBay too I saw some of you put the orange screen down by the clock is that custom work or can i buy that pannel from some where

All that is custom and requires lengthening the wires and patience. Not too difficult and looks awesome..

And ps, a comma or a period here and there works well in sentences :-)

Yeah I have been considering moving my tech navi screen to the bottom, then putting in a tablet using a media bridge to stream music. Only thing that might be weird is the back up cam. What are your thoughts on this?

Look down some more when backing up :hahaha: No, no... I kids. That's a tough call. It will be better to move the oe screen to the sunglasses holder, but that would mean a custom made overhead console is needed. Been tossing that idea around for sometimes now. Another obstacle, to this is how to get to the power button on the tablet that is mounted into the oe spot. Some kind of actuator will be needed to do that.

yea, this idea has been tossed btw andy, turbo and i for a while.. i wrote a whole thread on this and its more or less gonna fall into a trial and error thing once i get the tablet.. but thats the best scenario for the cost

Yeah I saw the thread but I'm running an 04 fx35 and I'm not sure how the stock navi screen would work/fit in there. Also the newer gen android tablets have the navigation buttons on the front of the housing unit. My other questions would be and charging and over heating. Tablets generate a lot of heat and in the winter with heat blasting I would be afraid of it over heating. As far as charging goes I could run a power outlet to USB cord back there. Any more info on a 04 setup would be sweet

You mean you not sure how your stock navi screen would look in the overhead console? One thing for sure, once you get tablet installed, the chance for using the stock navi will probably none. As for backup camera, yeah, you will have to tilt your head higher. Even higher if you have short driver. I think relocating the stock screen to the overhead console still beats down below where the clock is. I don't have a tablet, so not sure how much heat those thing generate. Power is the easy part. Have you thought of how can you press the power button to turn on/off or wake the screen when it got into power saving mode?
