do i have to go lower profile... i cant just go wider:confused:
like ive told you before.... me n curbs dont get along... plus im told that the gap between the tire and the wheelwell would increase...

275/50 (more of an overall wheel/tire diameter match) or 45 (speedo would read 2.3% too fast) or even 285/45 (only yokohama advan ST available) if you don't mind a little stretching, but the tire brand would dictate how that would look. More tire choices with 285/50 though (speedo would read 2.6% slower).

265/50-20 fits ~7.5" - 9.5"

285/55-20 fits ~8.0" - 10.0"

However, 285/30-20 fits ~9.5" - 10.5"

And, 265/35-20 fits ~9.0" - 10.5"

These numbers are for an example tire, the example being BFG KDW-2's. As you see, the smaller the profile, the wider the rim must be to accommodate the smaller sidewall. So using this as a rough estimate, 285/50-20 (which isn't offered @ TireRack atleast) would be recommended on 8.5"-10.0 or something similar. This isn't all-inclusive though and you can stretch almost any tire of appropriate inner diameter onto a wide range of rim widths.

I put some rubberband-like 255/35-20 tires on my stock 20's just to see how it looks. Didn't like it so I'm gonna sell them, but that just goes to show you since it is recommended 8.5" - 10.0", you can still fit it just fine.

So in summary, I'd go 285/50-20 if you can find that size. The sidewall would be .4" taller and overall tire diameter would be .8" taller than stock 265/50-20, or 2.6% larger resulting in 2.6% slower speedo and 2.6% less mileage on the odometer.

Darn it Doc, you're quicker than me.

Personally, Ash, I think I'll be going with 285/50-20 Yoko Parada Spec-X's either this Summer or next Spring.

Fast trigger finger buddy .

But yes Ash i would also go with the 285/50 as there are many tire choices and you will be gaining more then loosing anything with the speedo reading 2.6% slower.

I think the width on stock 20s are 8". I got 285/50/20 Yokos on 8.5" rims, I don't see why that size wouldn't work on stock 20s...other than more side bulge.

ive been super busy with work and the new show... havent done anything non work related in 3 weeks:frown:

not sure if you still need a hand with this but I am in the market for new tires and have been doing a ton of research.

Stock 18s 265/60/18 (which you had I'm assuming by your post) overall diam is 30.6" and 39lbs a tire. Section width is 10.8" tread width is 9.1"

As somone mentioned, 285/50/20 is a readily available tire and great choice becuase of it but you do have other options.

The General Grabber & Continental Cross Contact should be on the top of your shopping list along with the Yoko Advan ST and Toyo ST. Here are the 20" tire sizes and specs for the only 20" sized tires on an 8" wheel that stay within the 3% tolorance range when upsizing wheels creating the least amount of speedo inaccuracy:

Stock Sec width Tread width Diam Wieght

265/60/18 10.8" 9.1" 30.6" 39lbs

Grabbers & Cross Contacts

285/50/20 11.2" N/A 31.2" 41 & 40lbs
275/45/20 10.7" N/A 29.7" 39 & 40lbs

Yoko Advan ST

275/50/20 11.2" 9.6" 30.9" 42lbs
265/50/20 10.9" 9.3" 30.5" 40lbs

Toyo ST

265/50/20 11" N/A 30.4" N/A

The widest tire you can fit on the stock 20 without messing up your speedo is the Yoko 275/50/20 or the Grabber 285/50/20. The Yoko 265s and Toyo 265s are closest to stock diam though.

Hope this helps!

OOOO! OOOO!!!! Not me. :xd:

I played a computer game called The Eleventh Hour... it was the sequel to The 7th Guest. Pretty creepy games involving puzzles and ghouls, does this show have skeletons and mind games? Or acidic vomit that dissolves humans into the ground?

its xfiles meets csi...
the pilot was far enough out there they wont air it for fear of losing a fanbase...
