Stillen Intake Filter

when you oil it, just do enough to get it moist, but it shouldnt be dripping wet. if you need to, just pat it a bit with a towel to soak up the excess.

let me know Carlos, when you are doing it. maybe I can help....

Thanks Alan. Planning on doing it today or tomorrow. Want it clean for the long drive down to San Diego. Should I wait to do it after? lol

Going to add some fuel injector cleaner today when I fill up.

it would be best to clean the filter when the sun is out, so it can dry better /faster.

I would do it after:wink: so no unexpected problems with intake. IMO

but if you must , then let it dry over night

My friend who's an experienced mechanics told me some soap water to clean the filter and some transmission oil to oil the filter will just do the trick.

Personally, I haven't tried that just got my intake installed like couple weeks ago. But for those who don't want to spend the money, it is an option. (But I'm not responsible for it)

DRYFLOW Filters-They Can Take It! Not that you would ever do this to your filter, but with a DRYFLOW conical filter you could...

Incredible durabilityDRYFLOW filter media bounces back to original shapeThis demonstrates just how tough the DRYFLOW media really is. And with no co-pleated screen on the outside, there is no risk of filter damage during shipping, installation or cleaning. The DRYFLOW filter will retain its shape and performance even after the most severe abuse. That is why winning race teams continue to choose AEM DRYFLOW.

Strength from the Inside Out* We reinforce DRYFLOW filter elements with a lightweight mineral-reinforced plastic cage that maintains the element’s structural integrity and eliminates the chance of the filter collapsing from flow demands, while also reducing the filter’s overall weight.

* Note: DRYFLOW Panel Filters are supported by co-pleated aluminum wire mesh.
Clean, Clean & Clean Again! Our media is so durable that it can withstand almost unlimited cleanings with virtually no degradation of filtration efficiency, and it’s easy to clean! DRYFLOW’s polyester synthetic media can endure repeated cleanings without degrading the media’s filtration capabilities. If you clean and maintain it properly it will last for the life of your vehicle.

No Other Filter Tested Could Touch Our Dust Holding CapabilitiesDust holding is the amount of dust a filter is capable of holding (measured in grams) before the restriction from the dust on the filter affects its flow capabilities. The higher an air filter’s dust holding capacity the longer it will deliver adequate flow for the engine before requiring cleaning. Compare the dust holding capacity of AEM’s DRYFLOW to similar competitor dry and oiled cotton gauze filters in new condition and after five cleaning cycles. Not only does the DRYFLOW hold over 75% more dust than the closest competitor, it maintains a high level of dust holding wash after wash.

Go Ahead, Whack It...Clean That Is! Under extremely dusty/dirty conditions, DRYFLOW filters can be knocked a few times to remove excess dirt off of the filter pleats.

Not sure if this is true or not, but someone told me that you are not supposed to drive your car for a couple days after you clean and re-oil you filter. Is this true?

haven't heard of that. i do know that it's best to oil your filter and leave it overnight and let it soak in. you can install it the next day, drive it and be fine with it. Did you have any problems?

Not true. You can drive immediately after applying oil to the filter. You need to wait when cleaning the filter - let all the water dry completely from the filter element before applying the oil. After washing my old K&N, I would sit it in front of a fan for a couple hours to dry completely. Then apply the oil and good to go.

I haven't cleaned it yet. I am going away for the weekend and leaving my car at my house so I am probably going to clean it and re-oil it and then reinstall it when I get back.

Is it really necessary to disconnect the negative battery cable and unplug the MAF when taking out the filter. Can I just remove the stillen airbox as a whole, before the MAF, and then take out the filter?

Just because of clearance issues with tools, it's easier to take off the MAF as well, but no - you don't HAVE to do that. Just be gentle with the MAF assembly and harness.

It's always a good idea to disconnect the battery when working on the car. Remember that the negative is grounded to the chassis, which means if you touch any live wire and the car at the same time, you complete the circuit. The MAF and Throttle Body in particular are sensitive to both impact and Electro-static discharge. Disconnecting the negative reduces the risk to them a lot - especially when working in that area.
