Stiff Steering Wheel

I recently had to get a whole new OEM Y pipe for my exhaust due to the flex couplings were all rotted out.

Had an exhaust shop install it and weld a pipe onto the existing exhaust because the flanges were also rotted out.

Ever since i had the Y pipe installed i feel like my steering wheel had stiffen up a bit. Can there be any correlation between the new Y pipe and the stiff steering?

I recently drained the power steering fluid and put new in and added air to my tires, but that didn't seem to help much.

Any thoughts?

Has anyone changed the power steering pump on there 09+ models?

Thinking my power steering pump is going bad

Fixed the issue... Had a seized up caliper causing the car to drag and stiff up steering wheel at turns.

Had new caliper installed and problem solved!

well..back to the drawing board. Brake caliper wasn't the issue and car still feels sluggish with hard steering.

You think it's possible might be something to do with a faulty O2 sensor near the cats since they kept messing with the exhaust?

Okay, so i need some help figuring this out!

All the problems i am having i pinpointed to the Passenger side rear caliper/brake assembly. Replaced caliper with brand new and just put on new pads and rotors and something is still binding up the caliper and overheating the rotors!!

What is left to inspect? the last thing i can think of is not enough brake fluid is reaching that caliper and something is messed up with the brake line??

It could be that something got bent and the caliper isn's sitting straight with the rotor. Or perhaps the wheel bearing is bad and causing a vibration. These are purely guesses. There isn't much that would cause a caliper to lock short of stuck guide pins, or a piston that isn't releasing properly. You did ensure that the pins are lubricated and properly bled the brakes?

The dealer installed the new caliper cause they told me it was binding up so they bled the line as well.

I installed new pads and rotors with my buddy at his shop the other day and greased the slide pins and everything.

I'm going to bring it back to Infiniti because i don't think my caliper was bad, i'm thinking there might be a kink in line somewhere

Those are both rear brakes and rotors i installed the other day... the caliper issue i'm having still is with the new one that infiniti replaced. brought the car there this morning and told there was nothing wrong with the caliper they installed and that's normal!???

ARE U KIDDING ME!???

The rotor is burning up like crazy

I cant figure out WTF is going on...brand new pads rotors and caliper and the caliper still not releasing??

It sounds to me like the exhaust shop did something that caused this problem. Perhaps the rubber brake hose got "torched", not visibly so but enough that the inner lining broke down while this talented welder let the torch sit on the line whilst he admired his work. Either way, I'd go back to this exhaust shop and let'em know that they need to make you whole without fucking something else up and that they owe you for your time and $ spent on all this b.s..
In the future I suggest you pick a shop where you can stand and watch the tech do his/her job and do just that, stand there and watch until the job is done.

Yeah i have nooo clue what the hell he did to make this bind up. The part he welded was further up in the middle of the car but he did mess around with the hangers near the rear where the brake is so i'm thinking maybe something yanked the hose and pinched internally???

idk i'm so stumped on what's going on and it's driving me insane!!

Just a thought. Is it possible that it is the parking brake that is binding? The heat marks seem to be mostly on the hat of the rotor. Could also be a bad bearing that is heating up.

You might be onto something Denis - so it's been a little over a month and what ever is binded up has been freeing up a bit but is still present so i'm wondering if i'm wearing out a component in the parking brake

Now that i think about it, ever since i left that exhaust shop the truck felt so sluggish and steering was really tight.

It was definitely not like that before i brought it there so i'm thinking it might have something to do with the parking brake mechanism because my brakes were completely fine before that.

Whatever the reason, it happened after the tech was waving a torch around under your FX. I don't believe in coincidences and my money is on the tech having damaged a line going to that corner with the torch. Easy to do.

ad a similar issue on my 2004 fx35 one caliper was seized but after some easy testing it was the rubber brake hose that was blocked mechanic replaced the brake hose and the caliper was working fine

So it looks like something happened to the parking brake shoe and completely burned up which is causing the rotor to burn. waiting for new brake pad shoes from infiniti and having my buddy install them and will adjust it.

This issue has been going on for awhile, my question is should i be worried that other parts in that area may be damaged like wheel hub and axle seal?

It is possible that the bearing or seal is damaged, but I would just drive it and keep an eye on it. If either were damaged, you will likely hear squeaking from the bearing or possible feel some play in the rear wheel. For now, just remove the the old shoes and springs and drive it without the parking brake for now. Just make sure you don't push the parking brake pedal.
