weird, once I'm getting off the steering wheel [telescopic part ] once is being pushed away it makes this grouchy noise...

it does not happen always, only I think when there is more moisture in the air..
I called my local dealership and schedule service appointment, but it didn't happen that day. Guys at the dealership told me to wait until it happens lol

did anyone experience that? it seems to be a lack of grease problem on the telescopic part AFAIK..:uhhh:

thanks,
chris

lol
;)
I don't believe in coincidence, but I'm beginning to see the pattern; the issue is that this is not consistent enough to bring it to the dealership. [especially that I have to drive 15miles] lol;)
well I hoped that someone either went there or tried to DIY :(

Had this happen to mine...damn is there nothing my FX hasn't gone through =( ..... There are 4 nylon(?) bushings inside the telescopic part. Sometimes they get loose, or they are not self lubricating properly causing creaking/crunching noises. Gets VERY annoying VERY quickly. After all, this is supposed to be a semi luxury car.

ONLY solution, have dealer replace under warranty as you are an 07. Problem with dealer replacing it is, they have to hear the creaking for themselves. Or you can try and replace the bushings yourself....I have no idea how, the dealer did it for me.

and I have an '04, just coincidence both of you are having this issue.

I have an 07 and I also have this problem sometimes. I never though it was a big enough issue to bring it to the dealer.

2008 fx... happened to me for the first time today. Guess we have caravan to the dealer

blargh.

I'll wait to c what happens; rite now it happens so irregularly that I'm not able to replicate...

So totally a shot in the dark, but this happened to me -

My auto-telescope was making a strange noise until I noticed that a couple of cardboard valet tags had fallen between the instrument panel and the dash. When the unit moved, the paper would scrape against one of the surfaces. Reaching behind there and cleaning it out made the noise go away.

If it's definitely a motor/bushing thing, this won't help at all but worth a look.

My '04 starting doing the sound this week! It's really annoying. Did anyone find a fix for it? It sounds like some kind of plastic gears grinding against each other...

I solved the grinding sound by not using the telescopic feature.
I have it set to adjust automatically at entry/exit, but only for up and down. For me the telescopic is fine where it is so no bother at all.

Was just thinking about this, as mine seemed to be getting worse yesterday. Seemed slower/louder. How did you disable the telescoping part Matt, in the radio menu? Maybe I'll play with the adjustment knob and see what is causing the noise.

It's not that I disabled the telescoping feature. I use the auto-adjust steering feature for exit and entry, but I keep the wheel in the back position so it never attempts to adjust forward. Up/down only auto-adjust works just fine so I totally forgot that the telescoping makes the grinding noise.
Auto-adjust is in the radio/nav menu.
My guess is that some plastic parts get aged and start to rub a certain way to cause the sound.
