Steering wheel feels loose then tight and loose again.. Whats wrong?

Hey rushofwind, Iam the original poster. Shortly after a year my pump went bad. I guess my pulley was going bad and it started leaking and spraying PS fluid. So i am assuming i had air in the system and that is why my system was acting up. I would first look into adjusting the rack bolt (found in the forum). Then finding or inspecting if you have air in the system. I would the pump first. I found mine at a used junk yard, good conditon. I do intermittently get loose and heavy feeling but thats mostly related to a suspension part that is worn. Goodluck
