Steering controls, clock spring?

Good day
I have 2007 fx35 , the problem started by the volume down and seek down buttons not working intermittently, now they don't work unless the steering wheel us turned maximum left!!!
I saw many posts with similar problem but no one posted a solution. Some mentioned it is possibly the spring clock but no one confirmed this. How to make sure it is not something less serious before goung for this expensive spring clock repair?

I suggest to do a continuity test on the audio pins (16, 17, & 20).
