Stainless Steel Knobs

I was at the dealer today and tried to compare knobs. I went into a 2012 M and QX and the diameter of the knobs are about the same, but I could not pull them out of the radio for the life of me. I swear I had to use pliers to get them off, so I was unsuccessful in test fitting them.

My interior projects are starting to come together really nicely now. Having SS or even chrome plated knobs will really set it off. I've searched all over eBay and the net for something suitable. Everything from Mustang, Camaro knobs up to Freightliner truck knobs! We really need an OEM option again!

They are different sizes but the 06-08 are slightly smaller in diameter wise. But the knobs are interchangeable and work despite the differences in diameter. I tested Andrew's knobs yesterday and confirmed they can work. I was barely able to fit a 03 knob on top of the 06+ radio and was able to tune/turn it. The 06 knob works fine in 03 but there's white plastic trim that needs to be trimmed down for it to be recessed. Now I know that at least the "internals" work and can tune/adjust, this makes it a little easier on my search for the stainless knobs. Also fxlr8 was nice enough to measure his M knobs for me and according to the pics, they are slightly slimmer than the 06-08 knobs, but the internals are the same. I just need measurements for a 07+ G and I think I can get somewhere.

Confirmed the 2G FX and G37 knobs will fit on the 1G FXs. They will work better on the 06-08 radios, because the diameters of the knobs are smaller than than the 03-05 ones. If you use a 2G knob on the 03-05, then you will have a large gap around the radio panel and knob, but it works The 2G knobs come in two height different sizes, but all four will work. The only issue is that these SS knobs are shorter than the 1G knobs, so it will be lower to the panel and less surface to grab onto, but it's not that bad and the look is fantastic.

So in the meantime, I did find a set on eBay from a JDM site. They are about $340 shipped. Pricey as heck for a set, but well worth it. Unless someone can get these going, I will be purchasing a set after my other mods are done. Thanks to Ian, PMG_705 for lending me his knobs for the test fit!
