I'd think it wouldn't hurt your resale as you can't see it plus if a quality shop does the work they'll heat the paint with a heat gun so it bends and doesn't crack. No rust, smooth bends and a nice cut on the plastic. I'm pretty anal about mod work (like a lot of the other members on here =)) and it didn't bother me at all when I looked up in the well to check out their work.
My shop used the Eastwood roller unit that bolts directly to the hub. They have to do a small section at a time then heat in front of the area that they are rolling. Again as they are doing a smaller contact area it shouldn't take too long.
