Staggered GTR rims on 2nd gen awd

So I'm looking at this set of oem gtr rims available locally. I originally wanted to get flashier rims but I couldn't settle for anything less than a set of HRE.... So I've trun my search for a set of more OEM stealthier looking rims that offer both look and performance without breaking the bank just yet. Found a set of GTR rims now I wanted to have all for wheels to be 10.5 width for the aggresive look but the owner of the gtr rims did not want to just part with the 2 rears. Is it possible to run GTR wheel as is on a awd 2nd gen? All my previous search about staggered setup on awd were inconclusive. some say they work and some don't. Seeing that gtr is awd to begin with wouldn't their rims work on our fx too? Or should I just continue to look for 10.5 one even if that means i have to buy them 1 at a time?

It's my understanding that yes, staggered would work fine, provided you are matching in diameter (or very close) and have a low rotation/mile difference between the front and back to avoid any "slipping".

That said, personally, I'd try my best to be patient and piece together four 10.5" wheels 1) for an exact match and 2) the specific look that comes with that. Either way though, I think they'll look great, the 2010 dark gunmetals would be a perfect combo w/ your black, I'm running a similar color combo and love it.

9 for the front and 10.5 for the rear close enough?

I might just be patience and wait for all 4 rears but it seems very tedious to buy them one at a time especially some fo the single one i see were remanufacture and that could mean that the color will be off on all 4 wheels.....

i though the 2009 were gunmetal as well? or were they just all black?

I don't think there is anybody with gtr rims on a 2ng gen yet. will the offset work and be flushed?

Jbaker is rocking staggered GT-R wheels. His FX is a 1st gen, but it's AWD. It should work fine provided the overall diameter (tires included) matches front to rear.

is the first post in that thread jb's ride with gtr wheels? so his was 9 in front and 10.5 in the back?

look was would it really make that big of a difference between stock setup and rear wheels all around?

I thought those were his Powdercoated OEM 20s, Jordan never had GTR rims on his ride, or did he?

Easy solution, just use 295/45/20 tire for both front and rear. 265/45R21 = 30.38 inches tire diameter. 295/45R20 = 30.45 inches (.23% difference, i.e. very small).

295/45/20 is recommended for a wheel width of 9.5 inches to 11 inches.

Front is 9.5", check.
Rear is 10.5", check.

Same tire diameter = no AWD issues.

The only thing I don't know for sure is offsets, but I can't see it being a problem. I had a clearance check on my AP Racing BBK and they clear just fine as they were made for the Brembo 6/4 OEM BBK.

So, in short -- go with staggered, way too hard to find 4 9.5's or 4 10.5's.

Excellent, thanks tchuck for showing me. They looked awesome, does he still have them.

Member Chinke is also running GT-R 10.5's on all four corners on his Gen one. He also owns a GT-R so it was easier for him to complete a set of the same size rims......

Staggered set-up works just fine. With or without drop you will need 20mm spacers on the fronts or they will be fairly inset. Not sure if you can get the 2nd gens low enough to worry about contact with the rear tires, but with a big drop you MAY need to roll your rear metal fender liners and add in some negative camber for clearance.

so the rear should sit flush without spacers?

does anybody know if the 2010 gtr have the option of 2 different color wheels? I'm looking at 2 set of 2010 wheels from different seller both claiming to be 2010 and one of almost near black and the other is light hyper black/gunmetal??? How about the 2009s? were they true gunmetal?

From what I remember the offset is similar between the 1st and 2nd gens (based on when I was shopping the FX50 wheels for my ride) but no one has tried GT-R wheels on a second gen. Offset is +45 on the rears and +25 on the fronts. So yes the rears would definitely not need spacers and should be flush, but the fronts would most likely need 20mm's. I would double check with the offset calculator to make sure.

it's the other way around, rears are 10.5" +25 while the front is 9.5" +45...

the rear fitment of the gtr wheels is very agressive, they stick out almost an inch past where a 25mm spacer would put a stock wheel on the first gens. the rears fit equal to a 47mm spacer on a stock wheel... they def require rolling the rear lips if lowered at all. the secong gens look a bit wider to me so they may take them nicely, but on the other hand the second gen stock wheel fitment is 10mm in more than the first gens, so it'd be hard to say for sure... who's got an agressive wheel fitment on a second gen? that would be a good starting point to judge fitment

^ Yep...that's right, reversing the offset #'s would have made for an interesting fitment =) Turbocad is right, if you are going to try to fit these it would be be nice if you could find a member with a similar aggressive wheel fitment on a 2nd gen.

not sure if this helps, but for comparison purposes, I'm at a 20x10 +40 all around and am sitting pretty flush. I'd imagine the 10.5 +25 would potentially call for rolling, especially if you're eventually wanting to go lower.

how does rolling work on our fx? metal rolling is staight forward but that piece on our fx is plastic or am i misunderstanding something? i'm pretty set on the gtr rims but everything i'm doing to the fx or will do to it, I aim to be able to return it to stock when the times comes. does rolling affect the car in any way in the future if i were to sell? like would it look really stupid if i put my stocker back on?

EDIT: would fitting a 24 inch be aggressive? there is a few members here with 24s

First you would remove the plastic trim, roll the metal liner lip, then you would cut some of the plastic off of the trim piece and replace it. On my application (first gen) there are two screws at about 10:00 and 2:00 o'clock in side the wheel well lip that hold the plastic trim on. The tire contact points on mine were between those screws so my shop rolled between the screws and only removed plastic between the screws as well. When it was done the trim screwed tightly back into place and you couldn't tell it had been cut.

thanks :) sound like it shouldn't affect resell? anybody have shop manual for the 2nd gen or know if the plastic trim is as easy to remove as the 1st gen?

So from what i can understand if done correct rolling the metal liner lip shouldn't cause any rusting?
