Speedometer Trim Peeling/Flaking Off

Just wanted to make this thread to see if anyone else had an issue with the speedometer trim peeling/flaking off?

I've been having this for the past two years and been needing to take it the dealer. Forgot to bring it up the past couple of times until I was there until last week I brought it up to them and they said that's not normal and ordered a new piece no questions asked. I'm surprised since it's something cosmetic and usually they don't cover that under warranty. But it's obviously a defect in the workmanship of the car. I brought it up last week all of a suddent because it's starting to get worse.

I never use any chemicals to clean it cause of smearing. I usually just wipe it down with a damp watered microfiber cloth and dry it with a dry microfiber. It started happening when I first got it. Over time I saw pieces of it starting to flake off and fall off. Very weird indeed......The funny thing is that I saw a few M37/M56 with the same finish but on the steering wheel trim and it started flaking off too and Infiniti released a bulletin on it.

Glad the dealership is replacing it. I think the part is over $200 :eek.::

Here is what it looks like:

Interesting. Thread reminds me to bring my Fx to the dealer and try to get some things repaired replace (sunroof... again for the fifth time), see if they will warranty interior pieces, etc before my warranty expires in <3000 miles.

Wanna bring it for me? :D

lol

So which dealer you going to?

Usual ray catena on rt 1 nj since it's close and have been friendly. Doubt the big repairs (seat cracking) will be done but its worth a shot

No never because if I do it smears cause of the surface texture. It's been flaking off since day 1.

actually the other side looks even worse. The whole entire trim is cracking and you can tell more is going to flake and crack.

good thing the dealer is replacing it ..i wouldnt be happy after spending a nice chunk of change to see stuff peeling off.

previous owner of your ride I'm sure used something they weren't supposed to. Like prep-all wax remover or some crap who knows.

It started doing it after I got it within the first month back in early 2010. Not sure if he had anything to do with it or not. It could be though.

I found out the previous owner was some executive that worked for Infiniti corporate and only had the car for a few months.

I had the same issue with the "soft touch" surface coatings in my old GTI but not with my last FX. However, I did see a similar problem in a few of the G35/37 loaners they gave me.
