Sometimes... I can't unlock my doors

Hi Guys... I have been having a weird issue lately where sometimes I can't unlock my doors using the button on the outside of the door on the handle. And sometimes it seems like I can't unlock them using the keyfob. It's either one or the other, and so far if one isn't working I am always able to use the other method to unlock the door. Sometimes i have no problem at all.

I have read through the battery threads and the door actuator threads. I am not sure if either one of these issues is my problem or not.

I am leaning toward replacing the key fob battery and installing a new car battery since everyone here seems to say that the FX has a bad/weak/terrible OEM battery. I will need to check and see if I have the original battery or not in my 2011..

Anyone have any other thoughts on this before I drop a 100$.

I have also had issues with my car not starting when i push the start button (everything comes on, but the engine doesn't turn over) or dying right after I start it this summer. I also have a 3rd party remote start on the car, and had had issues with the car dying right after it starts when I remote start it. Not all the time though. These are other reasons I am leaning towards the battery

When you get a new battery, make sure you get an upgrade... Something like an AGM or Spiral Cell Battery...

With regards to the locks, when you try to lock / unlock them, does the car show that it got the signal? Flashing lights or horn beep depending on what your settings are... If it shows that it got the signal to lock / unlock but the locks don't move, then it's definitely the actuators...

Thanks of the heads up on the battery. I had read something about it needing to be a 24F type battery.

When it's it not working, and i press the buttons to lock/unlock on the handle, nothing happens, I get no flashing lights horn beeps etc.. When it is working I do get the flashing lights and horn beeps. This happens quite frequently. But also somewhat randomly. Sometimes it works fine, and others times it doesn't. I am trying to figure out if there is a pattern. Like if this happens once I get into after it has been sitting all day vs getting out of it and then getting back into the car a few minutes later. I need to keep better logs I guess. ;0

First thing, replace keyfob battery... Easiest thing to do...

Second, take off the connectors on the battery and do a quick scrub with a wire brush. Do a good wipe down with a clean rag, an apply some anti-seize before putting them back on. Make sure they're snug. A lot of the time, it's just the connection gets bad...

But I would still recommend getting a better battery... Have a nice AGM for my FX and I just like hearing stronger starts LOL... Especially with Canadian winters...

Thanks DatMan.. Ended up replacing the battery in my key fobs and now all is well again. :) Been to lazy to update this thread. Better late than never.

Also ended up getting a bigger Interstate Battery because it went kaput on me one day in the freezing rain at Kroger with a car full of groceries. DOH!
