The FX35 I'm picking up has nasty finger nail scratches in the door depressions behind each of the door handles. Are you able to get behind the door handles and buff them out?

Is there an option for just the two step machine polishing? The previous owner just got the car detailed.

I would be interested also, just need to make time to make my way out to Cerritos. FX loaner? lol

If you can, send me a high resolution picture of the scratches. I think I know what you're talking about, but I just want to be sure. My car gets the same scratches behind the door handle.

So, the car has been clayed already? If so, it'll be $150 for the detail (wash, 2 step polish, wax or sealant + interior). But you have to be sure the car has been clayed before machine polishing because the contaminants can be rubbed around on the buffing pads. I will let you know whether the car needs claying or not once I look at it.

Okay, just let me know when you have time. Thanks.

what do u do on ur 2 step machine polish ? what do u use ?

That would depend on the level of paint correction that I would need to do. If the swirls are heavy, I would do the first round of polishing with Menzerna Super Intense Polish or 3M PI3 Compound on a PFW Pad, Mequiar's Wool Pad, or W7000 pad using my rotary. If the swirls are not too heavy, I would opt for Menz IP, M105, or Meg UC. The second round of polishing would mostly likely be Menzerna PO85rd, Final Polish, or M205 on rotary or porter cable. If you tell me what you're looking for, I can recommend some products for you. Just PM me.

Oh damn, you use a rotary buffer? Professional level.......

Always scared with rotary taking too much cut of the coat.....

I thought it was brazenc5 who wanted the finger nail scratches buffed out. Anyway, yeah even that area can be buffed out. I buffed it out on my car and all of the scratches went away. Anyway, that area is very prone to nail scratches unless you consciously try not to make them and keep your car clean.

That's what most people think, but actually rotary doesn't cut as much as people think. For instance, factory paintjob usually has about 50 microns of clearcoat. Using rotary with even an aggressive wool pad only cut about 2-6 microns of the clear. I went to a detailing convention and actually measured the clear using a paint thickness gauge before & after using rotary.

Once you learn to use the rotary, its hard to go back to using only a random orbital or dual action. Not only is the buffing process alot quicker, but it actually makes the surface more shiney by slightly leveling the orange peel. If you are more skilled, you can even use the rotary to jewel the paint.

The fingernail scratches I have are basically the same as the previous poster's pics. Was thinking if it was possible to apply 3M protective film behind the door handles after the buffing. I'll set up an appt with you over in the next month. Thanks!

i try to tell all these newbs or customers that think they know how to do things themselves that they want to buy a porter cable & think they will get the same results as i do with the rotary. lol. customers come into the shop reading crap off the internet & try to tell me how to do my job.
porter cable is a real piece of shit but some people use it for heavy corection then they do a writeup & claim 39 hours to get 1 car done lol. porter cable is good for spreading wax at a low speed. the flex orbital is a good machine, its stronger than the porter cable. i use the flex orbital sometimes for light jobs but never for heavy clear coat correction.
