what engine is in the ex35? my fx35 went into the shop and the dealer gave me a loaner car for the day. i want my 06 fx to feel like this zippy ex35. what can be done lol. this thing just ramps up at like 4k rpm and pulls like a freight train.

so what can be done to my 06 engine to get a similiar result? has anybody made any frankenstein engines of combining heads or intake mani's? what makes the hr different

There is a considerable weight difference... I think.

I had a G35 loans a while back and it hauled a lot more ass than my FX, but it probably considerably lighter.

the ex weighs a lot less and has the hr. strip a bunch of your interior and upgrade your engine and youll be good to go lol

It is tuned differently than the Fx35. My buddy had an Ex35 and he has yet to beat me in any race (short, long). It feels a little faster, but it's misleading

HR motor and less weight. The EX35 KILLS the 1st gen FX35...much closer to the 45.

04 FX35 2wd= 280hp/270 lb weight = 4056 / 6.9s 0-60 time
07 FX35 2wd= 280hp/270 lb weight = 4110 / 6.9s 0-60 time
07 FX45 awd= 315hp/329 lb weight = 4370 / 6.0s 0-60 time
08 EX35 2wd= 297hp/253 lb weight = 3790 / 6.3s 0-60 time
09 FX35 2wd= 303hp/262 lb weight = 4094 / ? ?s 0-60 time
09 FX50 awd= 390hp/369 lb weight = 4575 / 5.6s 0-60 time

Could you imagine an EX35 Twin Turbo?? HOLLY MOLLY!!! it would crush the X6 and FX50! and almost everything else.

I took out the EX and it was just too small compared to my 2nd gen FX.

The Infiniti Dealer up here near Toronto calls the EX35 a vehicle made for the women on it's radio ads.

does the ex get the 7 speed too? wonder where there getting more from the fx even though it's heavier? maybe more restrictive intake & exhaust too on the ex?

I have one right now (loaner). My wife says it feels like driving her friends Scion Xd with nicer seats. "Nerdy" is how she described it. Also, the orientation of the manual shifting option is backwards from the FX (pull to the left for man shift) which makes it really easy to pull it straight down from park into "1st" without realizing. Not a big deal but kind of annoying.
On the plus side, its pretty quiet and the HR is awesome!

My loaner had a 5-speed.
It felt a little weak below 4K rpms, was REALLY quiet (zero exhaust note at idle) and was showing about 20mpg average. Definitely detuned somehow.

When I gave it back today the guy at the service counter asked me how I liked it. I said "it's ok. A little small for my taste". He said "yeah, it's pretty much the FX for girls." Under the circumstances I didn't even smile (see my Dealer BS thread) but in retrospect it was rather funny.

Maybe thats exactly the market Infinti was aiming for "the girls". Although where I live "the girls" all seem to drive the best looking cars they can afford or hubby can afford. They don't necessarily care about performance but they do know a pretty car.
I think Infiniti missed the boat on the EX. Anybody know exactly which market they were trying to capture? I'll tell you though- they're in trouble once that Acura ZDX hits the streets.

As I said earlier, Infiniti made the EX for the women, that's how they advertise it.

The EX have higher trap speed than the 45/35 so on highway pulls, the EX will win. It's close from zero though.

Thats the dealer ads- just wondering if anyone had seen anything - interviews, press release etc where they mentioned the target market. I don't think Infiniti is going to come right out and say "we made this car for girls".

edit- just found this press release from pebble beach intro-

Coupe-Inspired Exterior
Designed by the Infiniti design centre in Japan, the EX35's sculpted elegance should have a timeless appeal. Sleek lines portray speed, grace and finesse combining the look and feel of a luxury coupe with the elevated cabin of a 4x4.

The sporty proportions include a long hood, short front and rear overhangs, rearward cabin and smooth coupe-like roofline arching over the windows to the C-pillars.

"The EX35 is the perfect fusion of a luxury coupe and a sporty 4x4," said Jim Wright, Vice President Infiniti Europe.

If thats what they were shooting for - the head designer should be sent to Mt Fuji.
