so my recent acquisition of an FX45, 2004, had one caveat, the car randomly will shut down while driving. i had recently had posted a few question regarding cam and or crank sensors causing the issue. i dont think thats what is going on, i had the "slip" light and the VDC light come on and shut off the cruise control, but the vehicle stayed running. the roads were bare and dry, and after we reached our destination, and stopped for an hour the system reset and ran fine until about 20 minutes into our return trip. The slip and VDC light came on again and the engine began to sputter and then we lost power, on the way up a hill, in the dark...my wife lost her mind...she thought we were going to get smoked by a vehicle coming around the corner. after 10 minutes and 3 attempts it finally restarted and we made our way back down the hill and sat for half an hour. the previous owner seemed to think the problem occurred when the vehicle was hot, but im in canada and its fairly cool at night so i dont think thats it. we made the last leg of the 45 minute drive , with the slip and vdc light on but it kept running, however i drove it quite gingerly and didnt really push up the revs. any ideas as to what might be going on???:eek.:

Defiantly the Camshaft crank sensor. Do you have a OBDII reader? If so, determine which side is going out. I would suggest replacing both to be on the safe side. I purchased my sensors from AutoZone for around $70 each they came with lifetime warranty...

Good Luck!

so i talked to the guy today who had serviced the fx originally, and he tells me that the car spit out the code for bank#1 camshaft position sensor, so they replaced it with an original nissan part and it still did the same thing...so they switched the sensors and it did the same thing, camshaft sensor on the same side. next step, ecm, sent the ecm out across the country for diagnostics and it passed with flying colours, sooooo he tells me there is another computer involved, and that one is about 900 bucks...and it apparently may not fix the problem, could be a timing chain issue...or wiring harness....ugh, im starting to regret this purchase. they checked all the pins and tested the harness and it looked good, no answers just a lot of questions.

How long ago was the sensors replaced? I would still suggest checking and replacing the camshaft sensors again, these parts are prone to failure. It would be totally worth replacing them again before investing in a $900 service. If you weren't so far away I would extend an offer to fix this issue for you.

I would hate to see anyone spending that kind of cash just to find out that it was a $70 part.

I had this same issue and there is a sensor that is similar to camshaft sensors behind the oil pan underneath that caused the issue. I replaced both camshaft sensors but the issue remained since it was a crankshaft sensor underneath the car. My fx would stall at around 3000 rpm and would stall at and all the same lights would come on. I would show a picture but there are none online and I am away from my manual that pictures it on the 2003 fx45.

Hope this helps!
