Small rust spot in door jam

So I wash my car yesterday and put on a coat of klasse sealant.

I've notice that there appear to be tiny rust spot on the door jam !

My car is just under 2 yrs old could rust appear this quick? There is 1 spot I'm sure is rust other not too sure.

What can I do to prevent it from getting worst? The worst one is about 2mm looks like a paint chip that is yellow instead of white.

Ironically the only door that is completely clean and rust free is the driver side...... Sometimes I want to just strip all of the seat inside the fx except for the driver seat :p

The biggest one that look like a paint chip I can catch my fingernail on it. Some of the smaller ones are raised. I'm think thing those of just surface should come out with sum elbow grease. I'm just worry about the big paint chip looking one. Can I just dab some touchup paint on it to stop it from spreading?

Try clay barring as mentioned above....and for like 10+ minutes that spot, you'd be surprised the stuff that comes out. Spots could look like rust, even rough and then still be able to clay bar out.

The only way I can think of that it would be rust that fast is if you are not the original owner and that section was painted....if it's a bad job, then rust could start asap. and if that is the case, you'd want to take care of that asap because bad paint jobs you are just asking for more and more trouble down the road.

I'm the first owner and it was not repainted. I took some picture before I dab it with touch up paint. One of them the paint is starting to bubble. So it's rust for sure :(.

Picture coming but I have already cover it up with a decent blob of touchup paint would that be sufficient to stop it from becoming worst? I dunt really care about appearance on that part of the car. I just don want it to get worst

the bubble above the heart shape chip is paint bubbling. This one is hte most severe

the rest kind of looks like this. the picture make it look white but its actually yellow

right now all i did is i dab enough touch up paint on there so its smooth to the touch. didn't clay or wetsand or anything like that. am i safe from more damage for now?

maybe it's bubbling not because it's rust, but because you didn't clean it enough? did you make sure you removed any way or sealants you've done to the car at that touch up spot? I always use P21s to clean that area and then use prep all. Then I know there is no wax, no grease, no dirt, no other contaminants right before touching up the paint.

If it's really rust, I would bring it to the dealership and have them take a look and take care of it. You have a corrosion warranty. Let us know how it turns out....

i dunt think paint would bubble for any other reason than rust???

but yea i didn't pay much attention to the door jam before. just regular wash and dry so i'm sure there is no wax or sealant on it.

I do wax and seal rest of the car quite religiously.. maybe too much lol.

I don't buy the not cleaning enough = appearance of rust. My previous cars were alot cheaper than the infiniti and i ABUSE it through its 4 year lease term. 0 rust. my dad's merc that he dd and had for 7 year, he never do anything more than wash and absolutely 0 rust...

I think i will take it up with the warranty department when i go in for service next. I'm worry that becuz the rust is appearing around a chip and the fact that i've already smear touch up paint in it, you can't see the rust spot anymore

The dealer won't cover this under the corrosion warranty. Something damaged the door and you probably didn't know. Paint doesn't just flake away like that. In order for paint to be missing in that spot like what's in the picture, something had to hit it real hard to knock the paint out like that which led to the rust. Corrosion warranty only covers things that happened themselves.

I was thinking for some reason there were two issues, the chip and the paint surrounding the rubber piece in the picture and was referring to the latter. Yeah the paint chip wouldn't be covered. You probably ran through one snow winter with that chip exposed to salt before touching it up. There are a lot of paint chip repair sites that say sanding it a little bit with a eraser head to get any potential rust or contaminants out would help.

If you paint over a surface that has not been dried completely, the paint will eventually bubble since it can't adhere. If it wasn't rust, I was just thinking it could be dirt, water, etc any type of contaminant, but sounds like rust in this case.

I would probably try yourself once more, otherwise a paint shop place will probably paint the whole bottom strip after sanding, etc. I'm typically not a fan of that when you can try to fix it yourself because then you risk the paint shop potentially doing a crap job on the rest of it and causing more issues down the road.

What grade of sand paper do I need do remove the touch up paint I've already apply plus the rust plus the bubble?

Should I buy a can of touch up paint that is spray type? Clear coat?

I apply a pretty thick layer of touch up paint already. U guys think it will be safe till spring? It around 6 degree average and going to drop below 0 next week. I'm not sure it will be a good idea to do any painting at this temperature?

i would say 1500, put it on a top of an pencil eraser and swirl it, get the junk out and hopefully you get the rust out. Then wash it with P21s or something that will remove all dirt and wax, etc, then use prep all which is like alcohol that removes everything and makes it ready, let dry and do again. probably use hair dryer now that it is colder.

with those temparatures though, just wait until spring. just my recommendation. I have a few chips and just waxed like 4 times and put paint sealant on twice and am waiting for spring already to do chips because it's 30s here.

1) Naval Jelly
2) Touch up paint to seal.

I stop rust when I see it, I'm going to re-paint the entire car later anyways.
