sigh...help needed with the rear bumper

Hey guys,
So this is whats going on..
Ive read the similar thread from another person, but long story short, my fx got scratches on the rear bumper. i know, sad...
Its pretty deep so i don't think i can't use any scratch removal kits.
The only options i can think of are to go the body shop or to paint it myself.
Then i thought, "if im going to take it to body shop why not give it a try myself first?
If i mess up, i can hit the body shop.."
So my question is,
how hard is to take the bumper off the car?
Painting procedures similar to the ones for grill or roof rack?
Any estimates if i go straight to the body shop?
suggestions?

THanks in advance!

You can give it a try but since it is a larger surface the chances of making a mistake are greater and more visible. If you are planning on bringing it to a body shop best bet is to go ahead and bring it. How did you plan on painting the bumper? Cans? The largest surface I have done with cans was sideskirts and they came out really well.

how about taking the bumper to the paint shop? and have them just paintand your do the R&R (remove and reinstall).

+1 This will save you some money on labor.

If you are as particular like all of us here. You will want the bumper to match the entire back end of the car.

No spray can can replace the quality of a Body Shop

Thanks for your comments..
Yea i have no experience of painting job whatsoever.
I was going to give a try for the roof rack in a few days and thought i could do the bumper at the same time. lol
I think taking the bumper off and bringing to the shop sounds really good idea!
I will let you know how it go.
Thanks again everyone!

No worries. Why don't you take some Before and after pics and post them?

Hope everything works out for you.

Mod on...

yea, now you mentioned, i seriously regret i didn take any before pics.
Anyways, i just dropped fx at the body shop.
I think they gave me pretty good deal (of course, depends on how the work is done..)
They will repaint the entire bumper, and fix some of the scratches on the lower side.
will be paying 350 all together.
How does that sound?
When i went to some body shop 5 yrs ago they asked almost 500 just for the painting for my buddys accord.
Ill post the after pic when i pick it up toms or the day after.
Thanks for your concerns everyone!

350 soundsmore than fair if they do the job right.

Make sure when you pick your baby up you park the car so the Sun is shinning directly at the bumper to see if there are any paint runs or if the Clear Coat is not applied correctly.
