Shaking/Rattling Gauge Cluster Assembly....any fix?

My entire gauge cluster assembly starting shaking and rattling a lot and i was wondering if there was a way to fix this? I wanted to take it apart, but it wasn't as simple as it appeared. Any input or tips to remove the cluster? I was thinking it might simply be loose screws or something.

why dont you take it into the dealer, you should be under warranty still.
how balanced are your front tires?
I already tried warranty, they said that its hard to locate a rattle and that they would do it, but if they determined it was nothing warranty related, that I'd be charged for the labor. Tires are balanced. Rattling only happens occasionally going over bumps and potholes.

it's a freaking gauge cluster that's shaking, not something that you altered and caused the shaking, how's this not warranty related? i don't see why you should pay for this...

yeah, my dealer has never charged me for any of the things I have brought my car in for. If they "cant duplicate the problem" they just put that on the report and send me on my way. Is there another dealer near you that you can try?

The dealership that I go is one that many people here on IS recommend in SoCal and I always go to the same service person as well. I was told something along the lines that rattling and other claims will be considered, but again, if determined not to be a problem, that I'd be billed for the hours of labor involved...thats why I figured I'd give it a shot on my own, but from looking at the cluster, I have no idea where to start.

does the cluster rattle all the time or under certain conditions only? dealership will try to 'replicate' the problem and only when they find out the problem exists, they will work on fixing the problem. things don't out of whack without a reason. if you're confident enough about something wrong inside the steering wheel assembly, I say go get it checked. they might charge you for labor upon not discovering the problem but the cluster won't stop rattling then you can go back and get the manager to kiss your a$$ and look upon the situation.

The rattling only occurs when I go over bumps like potholes, lane reflectors, etc. its a quick jolt and rattle and just sounds so dam cheap. The reason for the gripe is that the rattling was not present until recently, thus my conclusion that something either shook loose or wore down.

I hope you get it solved/fixed.
As for dealers (like Metro) they do "free" work sometimes if you use them for other paid services. They tend to be more lenient when you need them for a freebie.

I just came from Metro this past weekend, I always speak to Cheryl...went in for oil change and also had them do my belts that they "recommended" changing...she was the one that informed me of their stance regarding the rattling...she told me it could take hours to determine and that i might be billed for it, which is ridiculous if you ask me...
