Several questions on modding....

I have multiple questions about several maintenance / mod topics, so decided to ask them in one thread here.

1. I need new front brake pads. However, I have upgraded my front rotors to 2nd Gen. Akebonos. So how do I look for pads? Do I pick "2009 FX50" as my vehicle? I will go with Akebono pads (if anyone cares to know)
2. I looked on infinitipartsusa.com but could not find the part # and also not sure what the part is called. I am looking for the white plastic insert in the gear shifter. I have MOMO knob, and I need to cut down white piece a little bit to fit better, however, want to have a spare in case I want to revert to stock. Anyone knows the name or part number for that?
3. Anyone knows if there is a "smart wire" for the dash cam (just like the one for Passport laser detectors?
4. Anyone ever try to "black out" the exhaust tips? I am trying to get rid of all shiny / chrome parts, so was thinking about painting exhaust black. What type of paint would I use (high heat engine paint?) What would I use to clean the exhaust?
5. I am about to install HFC, but noticed that some of the bolts are rusted out. I used some PB Blaster, but does not seem to help, so I am thinking to just cutting them down. Where do I get new bolts? Would something from Home Depot or Autozone work?

I might have more questions, but can't think of them now....
Thanks in advance...

1. Do you have the upgraded 2ng Gen Akebono Calipers?
5. Try to torch them before cutting them out and yes you can find then at home depot or even ebay

1. Yes, you need pads that fit any G37s, FX50, or 370z that had the akebono calipers.

4. I have heard of some people using plastidip to black out exhaust tips. Apparently it doesn't melt. Although the more permanent way would probably be high heat paint.

#4...look up Wicked Flow tips in the search. I just did this...had stainless steel tips ceramic coated black. That is the proper way to do it as ceramic will withstand any heat u throw at it.

Ooopppssss.... sorry, yes I have upgraded whole front brake system: 2nd Gen calipers, SS Lines, rotors

Is there something negative about cutting them? I had Stillen exhaust installed in 2006, so I think no torching will help, don't think they have been touched... :rotfl:

Thanks, but I have full Stillen, so don't really want to install new tips

Wasnt saying to get new tips...u can take them off and have them ceramic coated. Was jst suggesting as that will really withstand the heat.

5. They will come off. Unless super corrosion has appeared. The cat bolts aren't exactly high torque so u can look for some grade 4 or 6 bolts and nuts.

The factory cat has studs if I remember correctly but the aftermarket ones don't. So that's why u need bolts and nuts.

Mike,

#3. What function you're looking for in this "smart wire" for the dash cam?

#4. Even powder coating don't stick long-term.

Good suggestion. People ceramic coat exhaust all the time. I don't know anyone with it for durability though.

Andy, i just really thought about power supply. All the dashcams I have seen come with cigarette lighter power supply, and I don't want to have a wire hanging. I love my smartcorde for Passport (I built it based on your DYI here on site, with fuse, and all). But I have cut the mini-USB cable that dashcam comes with, and its super thin, I am not sure I will be able to make one for that.

Route the cable that is meant to go to your cigarette lighter, down to your fuse box in the footwell and tap into the fuses there using piggyback connectors.

Didn't Jeff in Canada black out his exhaust tips? Thought he painted them.

And you can use bolts from Home Depot or a hardware store. Just buy stainless ones, I want to say M8, but can't remember. After cutting one off, you can match them up at the store.
