"Service Engine Soon" 1500 Miles ???

I replaced HID stock bulbs with Morimotos yesterday, since replacing the bulbs, "Service Engine Soon" light is on all the time. I only have 1500 miles on the FX35 2010. I know I might have to take it back to the dealer but what could have caused this ? I disconnected the battery before replacing the bulbs. The on board computer got confused because of disconnecting the battery ? The car drives fine I can't tell if anything is different . :err::err:
 
I doubt changing the bulbs have anything to do with the SES light. Still, I would throw the stock bulbs back in and bring the car to the dealer. With a brand new car, let the dealer deal with it.

Ahh it's just my luck ! Yeah I will put back the stock bulbs in and take it in I guess.:wub:

So I put back the stock bulbs (went much quicker this time lol) and low and behold, SES light is GONE !!! What the.... Could a faulty bulb cause SES light to come on ? I need some feedback before I try to put the MM back in again.

edit: I just checked the manual and all it says about SES light being on is that there could be an issue with Emission Controls usually caused by loose fueling cap.

That's so weird lol. I thought maybe you might have bumped something when installing it since it's so close to the air intakes. You might of just triggered a false code. Or maybe you needed to drive it around and it cleared itself.

Well no that's the thing, just before replacing the bulbs back to stock, I turned the car on and the light was on , replaced the bulbs, started the car and the light is gone. I didn't drive it even 1 foot ! As you can tell I seem to be having weird issues lolz. I will try to put back MM in again and see what happens. If the light comes back on, then something in the bubls is triggerring this via the elctrical system ? I dunno .

The SES is back again, so looks like not related to the bulbs lol. Taking it to the dealer to see whats up

I'll bet my ass it's the gas cap:laugh:
 
I called the dealer, they said to refuel and drive for 1-2 days and make sure the gas cap is closed properly (really ? DUH!) And if the light doesn't go away to bring it in, so we'll have to wait and see.
 
Update:

Went to the dealer today, they hook it up to the computer and first thing they ask is "did you disconnect the battery when you installed your HID fogs ? " I told them yes I did so they said every time you disconnect the battery the DTCS must be scanned and reset as it will trigger the SES light.

So my questions is , given the large number of people who DIY their lights, when they disconnect the battery they get SES ? That seems weird.

lol never heard of this. I disconnect mine everytime I do something "electrical" related, and have never had the SES light come on. But I do remember my dealer doing some reset when they disconnected my battery when changing the airfilters.

See so they did reset yours as well, they said when you disconnect the battery it may trigger 60-70 different DTCS so it needs a reset when you disconnect the battery.

Or in laymans terms "WE KNOW WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR CAR EVERY LITTLE THING IS RECORDED AND NOTED SO BE CARFEUL ! " lol

Wait, did you tell them you messed with the fog lights or did they find out themselves?:eek.:

Aaron maybe after u changed your headlights, fogs, and all those interior lights you probably had 200 error codes stored with "Some crazy guy is changing all the dam lights on me"

Today after all the electrical updates I've read or heard on the car, when my FCW went off tonight, I said "Thank you spaceship."

Now I don't know if I should change my fogs and HIDs to 5000. I don't want to deal with the dealer.

Is there a proper way of disconnecting the battery from the spaceship without generating error codes?

You can still change the lights, it's not a problem. Out of all of the 2nd gen owner's, he is the only one to get an SES light on after messing with them. I still think it was an accidental trigger of the SES light.

I do advise to be careful though when changing the headlights bulbs if you are. When I did on mine the AFS light on the dash was flashing on and off saying that the adaptive headlights were seeig an error. Ofcoarse I found out what the problem was though. All it was the cord to the bulb socket was tangles up keeping the actuator from pivoting the headlight left to right. I fixed the wire up and BAM!.....problem solved.
