Service Engine Codes, getting without scanner

Hey Gang,

Is it possible to get trouble codes without a scanner?
i found a post for clearing codes via accelerator tapping at a particular combo...... Not sure of code retrieval is similar.

Yes, it is similar. When the light starts flashing don't continue with the procedure, but instead count the flashes. It will flash slow and fast alternating. So 8 slow, 5 fast, 1 slow, 10 fast would be code 8510.
 
Why not just go to Autozone and have them plug in their scanner to pull code instead of counting the fast and slow flashes.
 
Because one requires driving to the ghetto while the other means I can not even leave my house, not to mention saving time, dealing with traffic, etc.

Luckily the Autozone in my area doesn't require ducking bullets in the ghetto :>

But I am anxious to see what code is being thrown, and I won't have an opportunity to get to Autozone until the weekend.

I'll give the manual method a shot.
