Hey everyone! Nice to "meet" you all!

Looking for some insight and you seem to be the group that may be able to help the most. Ok so i got a BMW 540i Sport on sort of a "whim" about 5 months ago. My dad needed a car and REALLY wanted my Lexus IS300, and i know that he doesnt have the same negotiation skills that i do (lol), so i agreed to sell him my car at a phenomenal price. I then had to get a car sort of in a hurry and found the low mile 540i really close to my house for a decent price and in pretty nice shape. Well, long story short I've put $3k in PARTS over 5 months which is something i would expect from a masarati or Land Rover (I was a technician at on of the largest exotics dealers in the U.S. so I do most of my own labor) and I am just not feeling the car anymore. I'm that guy that puts the Michelin Pilot sports on my car when my other tires are fine, ugh, lol. Its a curse and a blessing all in one so ill definitely take care thoroughly of whatever i have. So im going to sell the 540i now that i have fixed everything and i have ALWAYS wanted a FX.

Coming from the BMW what can I expect for repair bills and what to look out for when getting a used FX? I like the 09+ styles but the prices still seem rather high for them compared to the first gens and I am torn on which gen I like better anyhow. That being said I'm sure i want to spend less than more so an 03-08 will probably be more my speed. Essentially I'm looking for a relatively trouble free "suv" if you will that is fun, semi-fast, and has killer looks........AKA Infiniti FX.

Is there something that i can see that has the different features for different years? Also what are all the packages available with these cars and what do they offer? (such as my bmw has sport, premium, cold weather.) I am definitely getting AWD and am leaning slightly towards the 35 just to save on some fuel.

I thank anyone who offers up any insight. Thanks and looking forward to joining the brotherhood.

FX's are pretty solid build cars, coming from Break My Wallet abbreviated for BMW, you will have minimal paper spendin. I believe 2009 FX 2ng gen had paddle shifters from all the years. More guys will post and give you more insight. Gluck!

It's not the maintenance costs you have to worry about as much, but the mod costs. :vader:

Pilot Sports are a good looking tire, btw.

Welcome to IS! I had Pilot Sports on my old A6 4.2 too, they were great tires. I got out of it because the warranty ran out and repair bills and CELs were becoming a problem. Coming from a 540i I think you should stay with a V8, so I suggest looking into a FX45 or 50. You will miss the performance. I drove a 35 for two years and now a 45 with a heavy foot and the expenses and differences in gas usage are minimal. If you are concerned about model years then you should look for a 2006-2008 G1 FXs for the facelift models and whatever 2009+ G2 deal you can find. Reliability is solid for the FX. I had my 35 for 83K miles and never had a CEL or any mechanical issues. Most of the FX crowd can hit 100K without any major issues at all. Hope this helps your decision a little bit!

Welcome to : iS :
As far as trim levels go, the base premium package is pretty stout for the 09+ with heated andcooled seats, power reverse mirrors, hard drive music etc.. Navigation gets a little more with slightly wider screen, Bluetooth streaming music etc.. Tech package has lane departure assist, laser cruise control, maverick missiles etc.
Infiniti are reliable and bulletproof, especially compared to the bavarians. I hope you find what your looking for and soon.

Welcome!

If your wanting an idea of what options and packages come on the 2nd gen 09+ here is my original window sticker. I think if you get the 2nd gen you should get every option there is lol:

As you can see there are many goodies to choose from! Unlike the bimmers alot of things come standard though that you would normally pay extra for.

If I were you I would spring for the 2nd gen....I've had both. If you're coming from a 540i 5 months ago (which Im guessing you got for <$15k) And saying that the 1st gen is more your budget, then that's always a good bet. For a newer year (06-08) With decent miles and packages You'll be spending over $25k

Here is a pretty accurate guide on what year FX35 will cost what: http://www.cars.com/infiniti/fx35/
here is the FX45 guide http://www.cars.com/infiniti/fx45/

I would go for an 06+, because you will get the updated dash/navi/ trim/wheels compared to the 03-05 that simply looks outdated now.

Look for ones with the technology package, etc .

Thanks so much for all the responses!

Yea i dont wanna see anoher check engine light for many moons after this car lol. Very good to hear they are very reliable!

Ill def check out the cars.com info and thx for the window sticker picture. Love that a ton of features are standard.

SOOOOO much truth to this statement if you settle with 1st gen (03 - 08). Repair bills minimal, but the mods bills, man I'm afraid to add them all up!

Even more truth to this statement. That's the best thing about the FX. The money you save on repairs, you can have fun modding it, making it more of a beast. The amount of money I've spent on modding for the FX is mind-boggling, but the the results are worth it. :smile (2):

Lol I'm a mod monster so this will be great. Modding is kinda slow when you have to fix the freaking thing all the time!!! Haha

I'm absolutely going for the 03-08 models since something about them attracts me a lot more than the newer models (09+ are still wicked sweet though)

Any certain issues I need to be aware of before I buy (dash bubbles seems like it may be one?)

It will add up fast at $88 a knob ($350/4)! :wink (2):

What does the sport package offer other than bigger wheels? Should i go non-sport and get the 18's for some winter wheels/tires and put my own sick wheel setup on or go the 20's for the winters and do the sick wheel setup for summer?

Dash bubbles do happen on some (maybe 50% or 60% someone else can confirm) but you get a free replacement dash installed from your local dealer

Go for a 45 :top:

Really? I haven't seen the clear taillights on almost all of the sport models i have seen for sale in my area.

Does anyone put their bike IN the back of the FX as oppose to on top or on the hitch?

Aluminum pedals and roof rails, also clear Taillights .

In addition to this, you get tinted/smoked headlights, grille and textured/etched consoles too.

You are probably looking at 2003-2004 sport models. 2004+ has aluminum rails. 2005+ has smoked heads, tails, grille, and textured consoles. 2006+ are facelift models.

Ohhh ok that makes sense. I did see some clears and now that you say that it was an 07. Well you guys rock. Thanks for all this info! haha i always welcome anymore. Thanks again.
