Second frigging time this has happened.....

....The first time being when I had my lower rear GT spec brace installed. A few days ago (during my BBK install) the shop lifts the ride by the frame/rocker rails taking the load off the wheels) then they spun the nuts off the camber bolts and removed the now scraped and cracked brace. Then they replaced the nuts. Without load on the suspension somehow the car now refuses to settle about 3/4"....

As the threads title says it happened the first time and now again. Fool that I am I forgot to say "hey can you lower it down and tighten the nuts under load"?

The fix? Slither under the thing like a reptile, back them both off then spin them back on. Hey, I have a lifetime alignment at Firestone, maybe I'll let those hacks check it out.....

Fortunately both times I've messed with that brace I had it on the ground. Although when the coilovers went on this may have been changed...

hmmmmmm I haven't checked on that brace for awhile and I have messed with those coilovers a few times might have to check that as well. (firestone hack's) them guys didn't even want to do my rear camber with that brace on.

Rear lower brace - Is this the brace that goes under the exhaust or is this the subframe brace in the rear?

So is the brace dead now? My 4pt ladder brace got destroyed as well. The lowest GTSpec braces seem to take some punishment - rear lower, ladder and I would GUESS mid-chassis as well, but not too many of them are out there right now.

On the other hand the GTSpec braces that seem well protected are the STB, Front engine tie and rear subframe.

I have installed & removed all braces while the suspension was loaded and have not noticed any alignment or ride height changes. Easy way to do this at home is to buy ramps rather than using a floor jack.

I think what lance was saying that when adjusting the rear alignment you have to remove the brace but they put it back on with the fx in the air and not loaded back on the wheels which will cause some changes.

he means the rear tie (subframe) brace not the rear lateral (under exhaust)

if your rear braces and 4pt got destroyed on coils, mine will be dead...I've already scraped both of them off of stuff:tdown: 4pt and rear lateral braces are the lowest points of the under body...and the plastic cover in the front

exactly This happened to me when I first installed it, the rear of the vehicle was higher than before....then I got it aligned to the "best of their ability" and it sat a bit lower...then it eventually went back to the lowest point again.

If you guys are messing up this brace then quit driving over things. It's right on the wheels so it's not like it scrapes on flat ground. Driving up the SF hills taught me that it won't scrape.

potholes, too fast over bumps, etc. NY roads suck a big one. Im going to need to drive more carefully with coils

haven't had a problem with the rear brace, just gotta watch out for road kill, wont be able to clear that..... I am pretty drop to where the fenders and the tires are less than a finger.

Potholes are a huge problem in NY and the braces.. In order to safely drive in NYC you need a H1 with a huge lift kit on.. Lol

Trust me I know born and raised in the bronx try to go home every year...... I do admit that the gt spec braces are kind of low and with the coilovers they are really low.

+1 but in jumbos case he likes driving threw construction zones, hitting peoplesbikes and empty paint cans:tonguey:

Come on man, that's part of the fun of having an SUV... =) For me its the lower tire side walls combined with the additional camber that allowed me to drop the rear that extra bit. This last shop trip I moved the rear CO's up 3/8" in hopes it would look and be perfect in terms of clearance, yeah I have clearance alright. No time to fix it yet and it makes me itch every time I look at it.

Talking to my contractoer about re-doing some uber expensive decks on an apartment building this morning. I lost track of the conversation as I was looking over his shoulder trying to figure it just how much higher it sits right now.

Obsessive. There's a thread for this right?
