The front passenger seat heater (or cooler) would turn on once I started the car, but it would shut off on its own within a minute or so. It would turn on again the next time I'd start up my car. Took it to the dealer and had the following part replaced under extended warranty:

*******
NEW THERMO ELECTRIC DEVICES
Part Number: 873D7-1CA0B CUSHION
Part Number: 873D7-1CA0B CUSHION
*******
It was an expensive part, $216.90, and there was 2 of that on the passenger side only - $433.88 just for front passenger seat? But when I looked up the seat parts there's only 1 per side; so I wonder if they replaced mine without telling me? Wishful thinking..

Interesting.

I don't have the same problem but I can't say I am impressed by these seats in that regard. The cooling feature is fine but the heater is (1) not very warm, and (2) noisy with what I think are the same fans that the cooler uses. I have never seen a heated seat that has a fan/noise.

Normal for everyone else?

Even on the heat settings? That's so odd, especially when the heater isn't particularly warm. It's not an annoying sound, but it's not silent. It sounds like road noise. When I turn it off, it sounds like I've closed a cracked window.

I have to agree on the heat noise being annoying. It's a bit loud for my taste and I find my seat to not be as warm as it should. A little disappointed in that.

Yeah you're right in that it doesnt get/stay hot enough for the buns in the cold winter. When I sat in my friend's Jetta I almost scorched my ass on the high setting because I was expecting the same level of heat as my FX.

On my 2013, on the lowest setting on a 20 degree day, it is really warm. One level up, and my a$$ is on fire. I'm afraid to test the max.

maybe they addressed the issue for the 2013 models? You'll never know. I'm just glad I had the extended warranty to help with this or I'd be out a few hundred bucks..
