Hello guys! My name is Nick and I own a '08 FX35. I'm really happy with my car, I like it SOOOO much because it's great)) I think nobody will argue with me about this fact)))
But some time ago I received a great opportunity to spend a day behind the wheel of MB SLS AMG. The car is perfect. And the car is really really fast!
After a day in the SLS I noticed that my FX is significantly slower =) (Really??)
So I decided to make some magic and help my baby gain some power.
At first, I came to my local Infiniti dealer who offered me some performance parts:
-Stillen Exhaust
-Stillen Cold Air Intake System
-Stillen Supercharger
-Custom ECU firmware
But before buying it all I decided to get some info from the web. So, what I found was not so bright and shiny... A lot of guys wrote that they had lots of problems with electronics after installing the exhaust.
There are also a lot of rumours about the air intake, cause some guys even had a power loss (!!!) on a warm engine after installing it.
Finishing with the Supercharger kit, when I was at the dealers shop manager agreed to show me a car with a SC installed - so what do you think? That car came day before because it's engine stalled.......
Even if we abstract away from this situation - I just didn't like the sound of a Supercharger... I only heard it on videos, but it seems to be not that good... A loud whistling noise for a car that I drive every day... That's not good...
About the ECU - I never found anything like a PowerCommander (I have one on my Honda CBR 1100XX) for my FX. The only thing I found is an offer of my aquaintance who told me that he's got friends who can programm my ECU theirselves! But when I found out how BAD it all works than... Some guys say that they have problems even with the wipers!!! Some of them used to have problems with the vehicles media and electronics... And a lot of people wrote that they want to change it all back to the standard!!!
After all that stuff I decided to stop my "tuning dreams" and go on working))
But then I heard some info about the turbo kits for FX's.
Idea made me crazy!
Why?
Because i like turbo's much more than S/C kits... The sound is right and the blow off valve and much and much more...
The main reason why - is that I don't need a 150 horsepower gain!
I will be happy to have some 50-60-70 more horsepower!
It will be enough for me for the first time!
And the turbo kit I heard about was exactly what I wanted!
It's a HKS turbocharger kit! As my friend told me - it's just the same turbo, but just driven with the belt - not the emissions.
And the horsepower gain is not critical for the engine - exactly 50 hp.
But then when I contacted HKS they told me that the chosen kit fits only 03-06 FX's... And my car is not listed due to the significant changes to an engine made by Infiniti after year 2006...
So now I came here and I really need your advice!
Guys, can you please offer me something to solve my problem?
Maybe somebody had already done it before?
The main idea is:
-Need to gain some additional hp avoiding any risk to an engine (of course I understand that any tuning is a risk... But let's try to make it as low as possible)
-Minimum gain needed - 30 hp
-Maximum gain needed - 80 hp
-Like turbo's instead of S/C kits, but you can persuade me)))
And I want to thank anybody who will call back on my issue!
Best regards,
Nick
