My fx got some minor rust forming from exposure to sea salt from last season.Right now, its a little spots of rusts here, and there around the muffler area.Whats the best step to stopping it from spreading.? Gonna wash off the undercarriage of my car from now on every trip to the ocean. Best product to remove the rust? Painting over after removing the rust a good ideas?

Chances are that it's just surface rust. A few here have painted their exhaust systems to prevent this from happening.

I have to take a closer look at it tomorrow, stealership told me about it after servicing 3 recall items on my fx yesterday. i think i saw some rust around the front undercarriage also. I just replaced my front rotors 2 months ago, its already rusting up pretty quick, only gone to the ocean like 3 times this season. It's starting to spread around the muffler, like 15-20 spots of 2inch diameters. would i need to sand off the rust before applying the paint?

Whats a stealership?

You should use it as an "opportunity" to get a new exhaust! Actually, I just installed a new exhaust last week and as a precaution I sprayed Rustoleum High Heat Ultra enamel all over on the piping. It's for grilles and auto parts and I specially got it because it has rust inhibitors in the paint. I have no idea how long it will last or how durable it will be in the winter, but I figure it was worth a try. There was plenty of paint leftover, so I just sprayed other random parts of my undercarriage too. :good:

hmmm, my exhaust sounds way different after they installed fuel hose recall on my fx.Dont know if its a good or bad thing, all my friends noticed the big difference in noise it makes, I asked the service advisor if the fuel hose they replace would effect my muffler noise, he said they just took off the muffle and put it back on."noise is because muffler is rusting", my exhaust didnt sound like that the day before i took it to them.If they say it cant be the hose, why does my exhaust sound way louder when i rev?

they might of forgotten to install the gaskets that connect to the midpipe and muffler. Either they snapped one bolt because it was rusted and now its not sitting tight between flanges. A good way to inspect if you have a hole or any opening is during cold start. Start you car wait 4 mins and go under the car and see if any water is leaking.

i will try that, last time i was a stealership, the apprentice was screwing around trying to open my lock actuator so they can charge me full 2hrs service, i told them i wasnt gonna pay for more then 2hours. Betcha cant guess how long it took the supervisor to open my lock.

rust coat the bottom every year. seems to work pretty well and held up a winter. i went under a weke ago and some of the rustproofing is still there

i go to Krown. seems to work. after multiple car washes under, the product still there. Once you do it, its a yearly thing as they drill little holes in your body to get the product where rust can form.

if water is leaking from the muffler tip then its somewhat normal, where is the water leaking from? what side/part?

oh i see, i think its a known problem to leak from there behind the flanges it starts cracking and rusting. But if its between the two flanges then the dealer might off broke the bolt.

from scale of 1-10, how hard would taking off the muffler compare to like installing outer tie rod?fml, if its from the cracking and not dealer, dont know when ill have chance to install bbk, rims etc. inspecting the rust on my exhaust, its not as bad as i initially thought, way less on the exhaust itself, more on other part, metal, frame surrounding around it.
