Rubbery sounding squeak

I'm baffled, so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Over the weekend I started to hear a squeak coming from the drivers side front wheel area. It's definitely a "rubber" type squeak that occurs every rotation of the tire. My calipers/brakes aren't rubbing nor is it a metal type sound.

FYI-- I just put on brand new wheels (22x9 Vossen) and tires (Nitto NT420) less than a month ago. Road force balanced and even got an alignment done.

Today I take my FX back to DiscountTire where I originally purchased for further inspection. The store manager, which was very helpful and attentive, was completely baffled by this sound. After some more investigation, he noticed that the Nitto's which have a more pronounced lip or rain bead might be causing the wheel and tire to scrap against each other thus making a rubbery type squeak.

(This squeak is occuring on both of the front tires, but less pronounced on the passenger side). I don't hear anything out of the back tires.

What do you guys think about his conclusion? BTW-- the store manager said that they would replace all 4 tires with some Yokohama Parada Specs. Should I be concerned that this might be my Vossen's? :eek.: Thoughts?

Sorry I can't be more descriptive. I will try to upload a video later tonight

sounds like you a bushing gone bad.

Outer tie rod bushing, sway bar bushing, lower control arm bushing, worn out strut itself, etc.

I think I can rule out the bushings because I asked the manager to rotate the problem tire to the back drivers side and it continues to squeak. Correct me if I'm wrong but if bushings were worn out it would be localized to the fronts right? (I'm pretty much a dummy when it comes to autos).

what continues to squeak, the back drivers side or front driver side?

No way, not a chance that the protruding lip or bead on the 420S rub against the wheel lip. The protruding lip on the tire was design to protect/prevent the wheel lip against curve rash. If after a rotation and continue to squeak in the front driver side, then it has to be your one of your suspension parts... like a weak strut, spring or bushing. Does it squeak constantly or only over bumps/rough road?

No, sorry guys. Let me clarify. I rotated the problem wheel/tire that was originally on the front drivers side to the back drivers side. The squeak followed the wheel/tire to the back. The front is fine now.

It squeaks once every rotation and each time it's in the same spot. It doesn't matter if it's over bumps or braking.

If I remembered correctly did you get coilovers as well????? could be the mounts..

No coilovers...yet. Still on stock springs.

Does your have tire pressure sensor? Possibly the sensor not seated properly? Have you try to over/under fill the tire a little just to test if squeak still there?

maybe that tire has a defect, try to switch tires onto that wheel, if it occurs maybe your wheel is messed up

That sucks, I've never heard of something like this before. Hopefully you're able to pin point exactly what the problem is and fix it. Please let us know if you find out exactly what the problem was.

I just bought a new set of wheels/tires too, and while I was worried about them fitting properly I never thought about an issue like the one you describe.

I'd be very interested to know if it was a problem with the tires, wheels, or something else all together. Since the noise moved when you rotated wheels, this leads me to believe it is specific to the wheel/tire combo in some way. If that is what it is determined to be, hopefully they will replace these for you via their warranty policy at no cost to you.

Hey Bobby- yeah, I've never heard of this as well. The store manager is switching out my Nitto's for some Yokohama's via warranty... no questions asked. At this point, I'm hoping it's not my wheels?:eek.: Even it is my wheels, the place where I purchased will accomodate. I'm very pleased with America'sTire so far.

I think i have this exact problem on my fx35 2006 model. Its more audible when on rough stoney roads, but quiet on smooth roads. I have monroe shocks and struts on both front and rear. Although my lower arms are visibly bad, and the noise i get from the lower arm is only present when plying on a road with deep potholes, but i doubt its what's causing the "lose rubber" kinda noise.
