Rotor Discussion

I've never had a set of drilled rotors crack, but most of the applications I've used them on were with larger rotors/calipers. So more mass to absorb heat. On a heavier car like the FX with a relatively small OEM brake setup, I would be a little concerned.

At least one person on here has cracked their drilled rotors. Certainly not a common issue, but something to consider.

gave a call into my shop, although this is likely a DIY for me. He advised to go drilled with a quality rotor

Do you remember what brand, & if he had them drilled, or if they came that way?

I'm not sure, it was Berto.

Dave, since your FX is a keeper, why not at least get front BBK. Big Akebono fronts are great with R1 Prem Slotted/Drilled, avg upgrade cost will be a ~$900 range and can be cheaper if used calipers. 03-05 oem brakes are IMO just not worthy the time/effort.

Currently, I'm running FX50 bbk with R1 (stoptech rotors) slotted/drilled. POSI quiet pads, feels good and no complaints.

Other than Brembo, a lot of the companies get their blanks from the same place which I think is Centric. Most places have the holes cast into the rotors now, but if you read Brembo's writeup on it, drilling holes is no worse than casting holes and they do both depending on application.

Thanks for all your comments guys. Considering all options. BBK would be the best, but tax season is here. With so many obligations, I may have to take a more budget route than I want.
Private school is killing :0

I have slotted Centric rotors with ceramic pads (on truck since Jan 2011). They work decently for a decent price. The FX35 brakes are so bad stock if I had a money tree I would go with the BBK. Probably just going to clean up rotors and change out the brake pads until the rotors are done.
