Hi All,

Whats the best product/homemade solution to clean the windshield? Windex isnt cutting it. There is some sort of residue on my windshield.

Thanks,

Gay

Inside or outside residue?

Vinegar/water could work but I have found that using a microfiber towel with whatever product you choose is half the battle.

Goo gone is a good product for things that respond to solvents like tree sap, bugs, adhesives, etc.

Also, you can use #0000 steel wool on glass; it won't scratch.

I did use the #0000 steel wool, followed by a generous layer of rain-x, and finally a thorough cleaning with invisible glass on the inside and outside....the windshield looks brand new!!!!

I still think nothing beats a decent glass cleaner wiped down with newspaper instead of a micro-fibre towel.

This is what my mom uses but I do they it because newspaper when it gets wet gives off the ink. Hands and stuff get ink/dirty from the wet newspaper but my mom is convinced it better also. Why so much better and what about the ink?

Newspaper doesn't leave any lint on the glass - that's the advantage. The ink on the paper is only an inconvenience - doesn't do anything for cleaning ability, but doesn't really show up on the glass either - just your hands.

Today's microfibers (cared for properly) don't leave lint either so it's a moot point. Like I said, a good MF towel is half the battle. You really don't need much in the way of cleaners with a good MF - straight water works pretty well. I have a "magic glass" tool that uses a MF bonnet and nothing but water.

Sweet. Glad it worked out for ya!

Not sure if it's recommended, but I've done it. I used to do vinyl graphics on cars and sometimes goo gone was the only stuff that would take old glue residue off. We'd wax the area right afterwards just in case. But I never saw any paint damage because of goo gone or even goof off which is stronger I think.
