Reseting Procedures

I found a write-up that mentions resetting/ learning procedures for: Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning, Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning, Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning), and the ECU reset.

I understand one of the purposes of resetting the ECU (transmission learning), but the other "learning"/ resets, I don't understand why one would need to perform them. Can anyone provide some insight?

Also, I have tried to do the ECU reset, but I have never gotten the CEL to flash, is this the only way to confirm the reset on a 08' M45?

One more thing….Are there any write-ups about these “learning transmissions” that we have in our cars?

The only time I have ever used the ACC Pedal, Throttle Valve, Idle air learning, is when I cleaned my throttle body and the idle was really high and stayed that way. After doing the Idle air learning procedure which involved doing the other 2 procedures first, the idle dropped back down to its normal idle range.

For the ecu reset you can also disconnect the battery for a bit if you cannot get the pedal dance down.

I personally am not sure, but here is a google search of both of our sites: http://www. /forum/apgoogle....p=2734#post2734&ref=www. /index.php

Good info.

Fromt what I understand. The transmission basically reads you're driving style (throttle inputs, manual shift changes, etc) and begins averaging them out and shifting in auto mode to kinda match the data it's recorded.
