He guys,

I had a shot on the search but could not really find an answer on this one.
The driver seat of my FX is getting a bit out of model, the back part is still ok but on the seat part you can see that the leather is getting a bit slack.
This is obviously caused by stepping in and out of the car, mainly the cheek on the door side is slack. (must be a name for this but i don't know what)
I tried to find if the foam part is sold seperatly so i can remove the leather from the seat and install a few foam insert.
Anyone here done this or knows this is possible?

I noticed that too! Even after just a month of use, the leather of driver seat on the door side seems to wear faster than the other parts. Unfortunately I don't know how to deal with it either...

It's called "the left cheek".

Really though, the lower cushion is one molded piece of foam under the "leather", and the seat warming element is pretty well integrated. I've thought of doing this before as well and the best idea I could come up with is to add a thin layer of some type of foam atop the existing foam "seat" rather than recreating the entire seat cushion. The main problems with that idea are 1) Extreme difficulty in precisely cutting a piece of foam in three dimensions that won't look like hell after you reassemble the seat. and 2) implicit reduction in seat warming functionality which, for a piece of foam thick enough to improve the feel of the seat, would be large. Maybe if you added a separate piece to each "cheek" and left the center portion of the lower seat alone you could get by #2, but that would make it even harder to cut your foam sections...

If you have the time, mechanical inclination, and alternate transportation, pull the drivers seat and check it out for yourself. It's pretty a pretty simple assembly, you don't need instructions or anything. FYI, when you disconnect/reconnect the seat airbag sensor, the airbag light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for several days afterward before resetting itself.

Actually i was looking for a name for this damaga (get in/out the car seat damage)
Sounds good!

Anyway, i also had the idea to replace the complete cushion.
This would go including the heating element, but i was wondering if the leather can be removed, install a new cushion en fit the leather back around.
This because i could see on Infinitipartsusa that you can buy the seat part with or without leather.
Just to kill the price i don't want to buy with leather obviously.

As (simple car) my VW golf is easy to work on but there you can just remove the "skin" and change the foam seat part, put everything back and the seat is as new.
Also there is a big risk that one of the metal frame parts will start to stick trough the foam damaging the leather.
I am very affraid something like that will happen to my FX as well.

Edit: On this picture item 12 is according me just the cushion and item 13 cushion with leater??

You can absolutely get the leather back over a new cushion. No problem. You could probably do the cushion swap without pulling the seat as well, but it would be much easier with the seat out.

Item #12 and #13 appear to be the cushion sans leather, and the cushion with the leather, respectively.

That sounds good!
Soon i will need to order some new pipes for the AC system so now i am thinking to order a new cushion as well for the driver seat.
Like said, i've seen pictures from cars where the foam got damaged and some metal parts of the frame come in direct contact with the leather of the seat and damaging it and after a while there will be a hole in it.
Besides that, if i just take a seat on the passenger side i can feel this is more comfortable then the driver's side......but i'm always behind the wheel

Thx for the help guys!

i was quoted 210 for replacement of bottom cushion/side boasters/ and metal wire? you guys think thats a good deal?

Where did you find this one? On Infinitipartsusa that item is over 300 so that is a serious difference.
Unfortunatly the international shipping also doesn't come for free:eek.:

Wietse did you do this already...??

Cause i think you can lett this be done at any leather interior shop as well. Saves you shipping hassle and all.

I have some oem seats in my shop if you want to see how you can take the seat apart.

Lett me know if i can help
