Replace Catalytic Converter DIY

Thanks AxelFX. Is this street legal? Any droning issues?

No problem! About the street legal i wouldn’t know what to say. I haven’t had any issues so far and I been having it for almost a year now.

I barely hear any drone to be honest but what I like about the set up is that the exhaust sound is quiet when driving around town under light throttle but once you get on it it just roars to life! It catches people off guard lol they dont expect a throaty sound coming from an FX.

I also get complements all the time from the exhaust sound.

Good to know. I am quite hesitant though, it says on the write up that this is not compatible with AWD vehicles. Not sure how this test pipe affects AWD vehicles. Hope somebody can chime in who can elaborate this further.

I believe the Motordyne pipes don't fit because the resonators don't clear the transfer case. Probably customizing them would fit

Yeah axel and I are both RWD, so we both could use our ART pipes.

If you're getting HFCs, make sure they were designed for the G35 or 350z since have the exact same exhaust.. Just that the end is about 6 inches longer to compensate for our longer wheelbase

Thanks Nnaji. I narrowed down my choices to Invidia SS High flow cats / test pipes and the Magnaflow CCs. I settled for the Magnaflow CC. I think it is closer to stock in specs than most aftermarket. It is also made of stainless steel like the ART pipes so no more rusting. I will still get some performance gains (probably minuscule but will still take it) and steer from the overpriced OEMs.

Zebra hooked me up with a great deal. Thanks a bunch Ed!!!:tup::tup:

My wife has been nagging me to let go of the car. Told her I'd drive it till the engine drops. lol. Can't blame her. My ride has been very needy as of late. It started with replacing my driver's side front hub bearings a few months ago, then replaced the passenger's side CV axle joint, now fixing the rear main seal that's slowly leaking, and the busted catalytic converter.

Get a regular mechanic to fix your FX up... I have a local guy that charges about $300 per corner for the wheel bearings... The dealership in Canada charges almost $1200... So I can get him to fix all 4 for the price of 1 at the dealership...

I have a brand new set of HFC's that I've been thinking of selling if anyone is interested.
I snagged them years ago as a possible solution, but my direction completely changed to OEM when I had to rebuild.

I got hooked up with a very good mechanic who actually genuinely cares about cars just a few days ago. Just picked up my vehicle from his shop for an engine rear main seal leak repair. Infiniti quoted me $2,500, Nissan for $1,600 and a local chain called Christian Brothers for $850. My mechanic fixed it and charged me only $600 including replacing the transmission oil. He took his time and used hand tools to loosen up rusty bolts, courtesy of my past NY winter driving. I saw him at work, he heats individual bolts with a hand torch and applied oil to loosen them up. Had I brought my car to the dealership, they would just bang those bolts with pneumatic tools and break multiple bolts without even telling me. Still in the process, 2 bolts were stripped off its head. Luckily it is just one of those mounting point bolts. He extracted them and replaced them with brand new bolts.

I have 2009 fx50 any chance they fit

Where did you bought yours? The $550 price - is that for a single unit only or for the pair?

Thanks in advance Mike.

Hey, Sorry for the delay! I don't recall where I found that price, but do remember it was an online Infiniti parts store that sells on eBay and is based in/near Buford, GA. That price includes the discount after giving them the old Catalytic Converter. I'm finally getting around to fixing this which is why I'm back on here. I'm going to try and find an aftermarket piece instead.
Anyone know of a good aftermarket catalytic converter?

I’m looking to replace my CC now too (bad emissions). What CC did you end up installing?
