Hey guys, the fx is only at 360km and I'm itching to mod it already. I would like to remove bothe roof rail and the side grill and paint it either flat black or gloss black. Now how do I remove them? I found came across some instruction for derailling the first gen, don't know if it works the same way for the new one. Thanks in advance for any information:biggrin:

well i think the 09 roof rails are the same
in that case there is a post about this somewhere that tells you how to remove it
deecarp has his fx35 rails removed

thanks I dug up the thread with instructions and diagram. Now any idea on the side grill?

EDIT: I speak too soon, went to the garage to compare the rails and it appear it different than the last gen. looks like its bolt directly onto the roof without roof side molding. I might go down to the local infiniti sevice place see if they know how to remove it. Anybody knows if they will tell me how, possibile remove it for it for free if i didn't buy the car from the same dealership :p

I do not think anyone with a 09 FX has done anything to the side vents yet. You can always be the first ! Be a blazing pioneer

I saw some models that come w/o the rails - so Im sure it can be done

I really like the rail-less look like on Deecarps. Good luck with the mod and post some pics afterwards.

And yeah those side vents on the new 2nd gen FX are brutal. Every time I see one (which is only twice) I think its a Saturn Vue.

Yeah baby, an 09 about to go railless. I can't wait to have another FX join the ranks of the smooth tops lol.... Sorry that I can't help on this one because I have yet to see an 09 up close to inspect how to operate for removal. I'm sure it won't be difficult, so you hope.

I'm not actually planning to go railless. I was planning to take it off and paint it flat black along with the side grills. But I may change my mind once I manage to take the rail out. I'm not really a diy person just looking at the rail I have absoultely no idea where to begin, the only thing I've ever done on my cars is changing headlight bulbs... Anybody know if the service manual is out yet?

My bad you did say that in your first post, I just got happy, lol well when you are able to take some picture and of your rails and the mount point so that we can look at them and help try and figure it out, if your end caps on the rails pop off that would give us a better look and what you might have to do in order to remove the rails.

I don't know why I didn't think of this the first time I read it, but I saw a new FX the other day with dealer plates and NO roof rails, so it is doable. The dealer should be able to help you too.

I'm 95% sure that there are end caps on your rails, just like the earlier design, & there are bolts undernieth them, it should be similar to the previous gen fx really.

I said it Stu......but no one pays attention to me.....kinda hurts my feelings:tears:

I think rails are an option - I see a lot of them at Metro w/o Rails.

I got a shitty sales person. He isn't very knowledgeable about the car. Ask him if I can take off the rail and he said no. Than again I had to teach him how to use the car's audio system....

If it indeed an option from the dealership, I feel con ed. I could have save a little bit of money by not having the rail to start with.

Its optional on the FX35 and standard on the FX50.....according to the Infiniti Website

that looks like American pricing, remember hes in Canada

infiniti.ca says "Sand-Blasted Aluminum Roof Rails" as standard

The side grills looks like a major pain in the ass the remove.... So i'm thinking about some alternative action

1. Vinyl overlay
like those 3m protection film but in color. I'm thinking either in carbon fiber or flat black
2. Ghetto spray paint
masking the edges and the airflow holes in the grill and take a spray can to it. Although the only thing i painted is some gumball machines back in junior high.

Which of the 2 would look the best and would still look good after multiple washes?

remove them & paint them, vehicle deserves nothing less, if your not going to do it right then don't even do it, my 2 cents:smile:
