Remote starter for fx's

Anybody here running remote starters on their fx's? If so are they factory units or aftermarket and where did you get them done? Also did you encounter any problems with them yet and how long have you had it now?
I have the Viper Smartstart installed thats controlled by the factory remote and also by my Android Phone for about 5 months now. I got mine installed by pepe of infinitis authorized installer and so far so good. No problems at all.

If im not wrong Hollywood used to have it, don't quote me on it thought.

yea i'm thinking of getting viper as well, but from what i know is that viper is the best choice since they ave the adapter to work with the alarm. So your factory remote works with the viper meaning remote start and alarm ?>

would you guys really want an alarm too? I was planning on just getting the viper remote start since that is complicated enough.

A lot of places wont touch the infinitis especially the fx's. They say its too complicated and that they dont wanna damage anything. Some places just say yes to anything then they find out its not an easy task at your expense. You have to be very careful about whos doing it.

For you NY guys there is a guy in LI that does alarms on the fx's. He is very very good. He knows the electrical of the fx indide and out.
He did my remote start alarm and a few other members.

Yes vipers smart module will work with the factory remote which is what I have. The remote will be programmed to start your car when you press the lock button twice or three times (your choice). The factory alarm stays exactly the same and you get all of the smartstart features on your android or iphone. The app is free for anybody who wants to check it out before buying the system. Its a pretty god setup if installed correctly works exactly the way its supposed to.

I asked a couple of Installers in regards to the VIPER alarm and why they dont like installing it on the FX's.

1. Best Buy said they dont care about working on the FX but before they do it they give the owner a warning that something might go wrong. I asked what and they said the electrical system gets messed up somehow and the chances are minimal.

2. Custom shop said they will do it and they wont take responsibility if anything goes wrong during the process.

The shop I go to has done it several times on the new infinitis no problem. He is a certified electronics technician and has been doing remote starts for 20+ years for luxury cars.

Still though I'm thinking of not messing with the alarm, even though he could do it with no problem. But now it has me thinking again...ugh. I'm only interested in the remote start piece not all kinds of sirens, flashing, etc...if someone is going to steal my car or rims, they are going to anyway....I'll probably end up being more paranoid if I had it because i would then constantly be checking and if a false alarm run out of something important, etc.

I am with JD, since I purchased out my FX i am little more careful as to what I do to it. And having a remote start up for me is ideal get up let the car warm up and be on the go 7 mins later.

The guy I used is great he has tons of experience and has been with viper forever. He pretty much does all of the cars for pepe and many other dealers use him. His install was very clean. No signs of anything anywhere and my car has yet to give me any problems. Also the system is very reliable. I can send commands from anywhere at any range and works fine. Viper runs on an at&t network for anyone that did not know.

Bestbuy techs have little to no training on what they do much less the complexity of a system like what our cars have and most other shops just wana take your money at your own risk. Your best bet is to find an authorized viper dealer and get it done directly from the dealer. That way if anything goes wrong (hopefully not) youll be covered. Also Viper will not warranty anything thats not installed by one of their authorized dealers/installers. They will not even answer your questions over the phone if you get stuck trying to do an install and run in to trouble.

^ I agree, the place I mentioned by me is an authorized viper dealer....they warranty not just all the parts, but all the labor for the lifetime of the car. I wouldn't have anyone touch it if they didn't offer same and you felt 100% confident with doing complex luxuries all the time.

well this is the same place that Hollywood had his installed.

I did a lot research and spoke to quite a few people before letting someone install mine. What I got from most people was that the 09 fx and the newer range rovers are the hardest systems to tap in to and that the smallest little discrepency can cause a lot of trouble. I mean you might get lucky at bestbuy but I dont feel comfortable signing papers to release them of any responsibility and then hoping for the best.

I am at the point with the remote start that I really dont want to even think about it. I just let it go and just do it the good ol' way.

It comes in pretty handy when theres extremem cold or hot. With heated and cooled seats our cars are perfect for remote starters. Also ther are other features you get with viper smart start. Real time gps tracking, unlimited range and other stuff. Check out the app it shows you everything.

Johnmax on the org is well versed in all things fx electrical. I would go to him if I was within a few hrs of his shop in new york.

The thing is viper will not cover any part of their product if not installed by one of their installers and more important than that if the work is not done at an infinitj dealer you might run in to warranty issues should you need to take it in for anything they can relate to a wire that the installer tapped in to. And there is a LOT of wiring involved.
