I have searched and there seemed to be lilttle information the remote starters.

I heard from somewhere that there are remote starters that can be installed along with the OEM key FOB and you can actually use the key FOB to start the car by pushing certain combination of buttons.

Anyone have info on this? Winter is here and frozen windshield is a biatch. I want to have one installed before the snow arrive.

you will need a bypass module for the keyless, & yeah, there are ways to activate this with the oe remote, drawback there is distance... if your looking for really nice range I would highly suggest looking into 2 way fm spread spectrum remotes... they give you aprox 1/2 mile range & the 2 way confirmation you can see on the screen of the remote that the accepted the command & is running etc...

you yourself don't really need to know all the hows & what's, BUT your installer sure does, so make sure you go to a good shop, don't shop this on price alone...

I have always used CompuStar remote starters and have had great success on every car...They have good range and have 2 way communication, go with the LCD screen remote and you can see when your car started etc...I will be having one installed on the FX very soon.

compustar 2wss-as, best alarm EVER! I use them in all my cars, been lazy with the fx & never got around to throwing one in there yet, but it's getting cold again, might do one soon

is it true by having a remote starter its bad for your car's electrical system? sounds stupid but someone told me not to get one cause of that reason

that's someone that either don't know what there talking about, OR they may be referring to the shoddy workmanship many(most?) places will wind up giving you maybe, but if installed correctly it does no harm whatsoever... correct install being the most important thing...

ye i thought so, how much would i real install like the starter/alarm cost? i see people around me advertise like $80-$120 but you get what you pay for right seems to cheap for an install like that

Agreed, if you have a good shop install it you will be fine...Please Please Please don't go to a Best Buy or the like to have one installed...No disrespect for anyone on here, but I don't let them touch my vehicles with a 200 foot pole...

The only folks that should need a key installed with the remote start would be folks with the intelligent key, or if the key has a transponder chip...I know I needed a key with my Audi, but not my Dodge Truck...

Expect to pay around 300 for the unit and a couple more for the install, usually around 500 to 600 installed for a good unit and install job

older systems used to need a key installed in the module, but the newer systems now scan your key through the obdII port & simulate having the key there, so an actual key buried is no longer necissary, now a days these modules can even grab the door locks, interior circuit & sometimes more through the obdII interface making installs that much easier... & every fx weather intelligent key or not still needs to bypass the chip in the key in some way...

yeah, dude, like I said, this is not something to shop on price alone... those budget lowball places are the kind of places to avoid! they hire kids that don't know wtf they are doing & do more harm than good... theres more to an alarm/starter than just pressing the button & hearing the beep...

expect a good remote start install to START at close to $400 & go up from there,

what starer/alarm would you recommend? i was at a local dealer and i asked them about the remote start on my 09 buy they said thre waiting for some kind of tutorial on how to install one on a push start or something? the winter here is getting so bad already and i need to atleast get a starter ASAP.

I'm very partial to the compustars, been using them for years, they seem to be better quality overall than dei products, which are cliford, viper etc...

best I have used is the compuster 2wss-as, which is 2 way fm spred spectrum... the range is awesome & the remotes are pretty durable & quality look & feel, unlike most others that look & feel like a toy in comparison, including the vipers & cliffords...

if you happen to really be a dei fan then clifford does also make a spred spectrum fm unit, but the remotes are kinda cheap in comparison... range itself should be similar though...

I used Compustars on my previous cars. Great product.

I got a remote start with smart start all hooked up to my oem key for 500 flat. Works like a charm.

I press the lock 3 times and it starts, or I start it from my phone.

Not sure if it's the same one as aboce
