It must be nice to have the flex. My friend let me try the flex and using the same LC orange pad with swirl remover, one pass with that seemed to equal two passes with my pc.

For paint scratches I would highly recommend "Scratch X". You can buy it at Wal Mart, and its cheap.
I've found that it does the best job of all the products I've tried. You use it and apply it just like normal car wax. It lifts most scratches right off the paint.

Honestly, after seeing what scratch-x does to your finish on a black car, I wouldn't use it. I can see where I applied it, because it leaves different swirls in the light. I applied by hand though.

Mother's "Back to Black" does a decent job on black trims/plastic parts... (even though it does nothing for the trim "issue" that some of us have)

I love my flex. It is so much more efficient than the porter and cable it replaced.
I don't use any "glazes" when I detail. They really don't fix the problem they just cover them up. I use Menerza polishes, lake county buffer pads and Dojo wax. For clay I use Pinnacle (the lighter version). This is really a practice makes perfect kind of thing. It's taken me years to get good results with black paint.

dunno bout black cars, but i used it on my silver FX and my bro's graphite TL and it works wonders for any scratch that isn't deep past the paint. literally made about 50 scuffs/scratches disappear....if scratchX doesn't work then you'll probably need to take it to a professional.

Wolfgang makes a "Total Swirl Remover 3.0" that you can use with a buffer after the clay, if you have any hazing left, I follow up with Wolfgang finishing glaze, and lastly I top it of with their Deep Gloss Paint Sealant.
As regards to detailing the car I always use "Autoglym" super resin polish and then I will wax the car with a Grade One carnauba wax about 1 hour after polishing it. I use Swissvax, this is the worlds best and very very expensive.
There is absolutely no reason as not to treat this self-healing paint just as you would any other painted vehicle, using a scratch and swirl remover such as "Turtle wax" Scratch and Swirl remover for example will NOT hurt or damange the infiniti paintwork.
Black painted cars are a nightmare to keep clean and swirl mark free but the 2009 second generation FX range in my opinion in BLACK is definetely the BEST colour, the SUV appears more meaner and lower than another colour and WHITE is a definete no no on this model as is silver!
From my own personal experience I feel its also best to use a good Micro Polish Cloth which I do to remove the polish and wax, not the same cloth though, thus leaving a brilliant smear free ultra wet shine look, in fact better than new. I take detailing my new FX35 very very seriously and for me Sunday is my car cleaning day!!
Even my 21" Enkei wheels also get polished and waxed and the tyres are given a special tyre wax, spray or wipe on to give the tyres a wet look that lasts around 5 days due to the sunlight. As I live in the countryside here in Taiwan & amongst the rice fields etc etc etc it gets very dusty so my car doesn't stay clean that long I am sad to say. I use this as an excuse to clean it all the time and my wife says that I love my car more than her!!

I used Turtlewax sctratch and swirl remover, its very very good and I swear by it. Another good one is Autoglym. This product is also good the Autoglym Super Resin Polish, long term beauty treatment for all paint types including metallic.
Trust me, I have found periodic polishing gently removes harmful surface contaminants and imparts a tough, glossy, protective barrier to preserve expensive paintwork from harsh environment.
It is also Internationally acclaimed, Autoglym Super Resin Polish is the ultimate easy to use combination cleaner, polish and sealant. Ideal for all types and colours of new or moderately deteriorated vehicle paintwork, including metallic, clearcoat and waterbased paint finishes.
Autoglym Super Resin Polish contains low molecular weight resins which provide exceptional cosmetic effect and protection from most environmental hazards.
After polishing the car with the super resin polish you could then use Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine, specially formulated using the finest modern polishing and coating technology to impart a tough durable finish to a wide range of paint colours, new or old.
Recommended for new or moderately deteriorated paintwork and gives superb results on dark colours, reduces and removes the hologram effect as well as filling and masking minor scratches, again an excellent product in my opinion.

It offers the most lasting protection against all environmental contaminants such as salt, detergents, UV light, acid rain and industrial fallout. High Definition Wax is free of all abrasives, water & emulsifiers. Simply amazing results.
You should also use a good finishing cloth such as a microfibre, its unique construction of microfibre material greatly assists in achieving a perfect finishing when polishing and cleaning.
At the end of the day it all boils down to just how much you love you FX and how much your willing to spend keeping it immaculate looking. To sum up, if we can afford to drive the second generation FX then we can afford good quality detailing products, there isn't any excuses right?

My car was polished with Autoglym and although when I took the photos of the car after polishing and waxing it I never thought about showing off the shine and reflections for you all here. I will remember to do that the next time and take a photo of the bonnet/hood for you to see the results that I can get WITHOUT using a buffer machine. Just old elbow grease.

Seriously I like the Turtle wax Ice Products. The protectant and detailer work well on paint,plastic,chrome. What I like best is that it goes on clear with no white residue and is so easy to apply.
