rear shocks

I'm from eny but I move to south ozone about month ago but I'm always in Brooklyn I think I'm the only golden sand fx with the black rims and black grill lol
 
I'm having the same effects when going over pot holes or bumps in the road. To me it feels like my struts are bad and the car kind of wobbles around if i hit a patch of bumps. I thought it was the tires, prev owner put 285/50/20 cooper discoverer ht tires on it. I ended up getting a flat tire so i just decided to put a set of hankook rh06 on it (installing today) so i was hoping that would help, but after reading some posts it doesnt seem likely. Mine is an 06 with ~85k miles on it now and probably the original struts.

Is this really something that is just common on the FX's?
 
Old shocks will make it worse, but the car will do it even when newer. I first noticed it a week after I bought mine (used, but w/ only 12K on it). I think turbocad had a really detailed answer, but basically the car is underdamped in back which is what causes that weird twisty feeling. To be honest, the only thing that really fixed it for me was coilovers and that sort of confirms that turbo was correct and the rear is underdamped. I have an AWD so it has a sway bar, so that won't fix it. I lowered it w/ H&R and it helped some, but it still did it. I installed a GT Spec rear lateral and it helped some, but still there. I installed BC coilovers and problem solved. It wasn't until installing coilovers that I realized how underdamped the OEM shocks are.
 
ok, I was thinking of doing new kyb struts knowing that it wouldnt cost too much. For the set i think i have found them for around $250 then just pay for install. What do coilover runs? Would you need to add alignment parts to keep that in spec also?
 
Coilovers runs about $800 - $1000. If you slam it, yes, you will need a set of SPC Performance Camber Bolt kit
 
Just replacing the struts w/ OEM equivalent won't totally fix the problem. It will only help if your shocks are worn out. But even with good shocks, they will still be underdamped if they are OEM spec. If you slam the car, you would need an alignment kit to fix camber. But the toe can be kept in factory specs w/ out an alignment kit. Improper toe is what will eat up your tires much worse than too much negative camber. I'm running -2.4 camber in the rear because the car is so low, but it really hasn't had much impact on tire wear. The toe is within spec which is what I'm mostly worried about.

You could get coilovers and run at factory height; car will still handle way better and it will fix the rear instability issue.

Open your wallet a little bit wider and go for the CO and call it a day. You can get a discount (not much but better than nothing) when you contact the seller directly and take the deal off ebay. I did this with my BC co and my invidia exhaust purchase. My BC coilovers was what I considered one of the best mod I did.
 
I would guess one of the rear shocks are bad if not both, hence the hard dip to one side on rebound after hitting the pot hole. I would change both rear shocks as well as the rear links and bushings.
