Rear Rattle

Hello looks like you guys have this issue resolved but............ I am a relatively new owner of a 2007 M35 and have the same rattle on the right rear. Can you provide some guidance on how I remove the trunk panels to access the device that is rattling? Any other thoughts are appreciated !

I actually haven't got rid of the rattle yet, I just recently discovered the rattle again and it is coming from the rear shocks. When I hit the shock housing with a rubber mallet (car on the ground not raised) it makes the exact rattle that I hear in the vehicle. I have ordered some kyb's to replace the factory tokico's and will update once I swap them out.

Thanks. My rattle sounds exactly like the rattle from the video you previously posted in this thread on 4/9 12:24pm. Not sure what that black device is but appears to be located in the trunk which is why I asked for guidance on removing the truck panels. Also, I cant see any of the pics from the thread. Have they been removed?

That piece is actually under the rear of the car on the exterior, below where the spare tire is between the mufflers. If I recall the cover is just held on by some plastic push retainers and maybe a couple of 10mm bolts.

Got it thanks. Checking in that location doesnt cost me anything so I will try it first. If that doesn't work I will go to hammering on shocks

Well, I have had another rattle not related to what Jeff is going through.

I have a rattle problem with my factory Bose sub. It is freakin annoying with some bass on. Any easy fixes other than me taking my car into the dealer? It is the metal mesh part that shows from the rear seat that vibrates with bass on.

Did you try removing the metal mesh to make sure it was coming from that? One of the first things I did in my rattle quest was to stuff a bunch of old shirts around the rear speaker and in between the rear deck cover and metal panel. Later I removed the rear seats, and deck, and laid some sound deadening material. Of course my issue ended up being the rear shocks.

How do I remove the mesh? Do i just pull it out? O and I am pretty certain it's from the mesh. I pressed down the mesh and the vibration goes away. I did it several times to make sure it is from the sub.

The plastic and mesh is held on with a couple of metal clips, if I remember correctly all you have to do is pry it off...without looking at my car I believe there is one child seat anchor that you might have to remove. Have you tried holding down the left or right of the rear deck? The rear deck cover is held on with a couple of metal and plastic clips, by shoving a couple of shirts or some foam in the deck you may be able to eliminate the rattle.

Finally got rid of the rattle, changed the factory rear tokicos with kyb shocks and all rear rattles are gone.

Well, I didn't do much venturing with my Sub rattle, but I am taking it in tomorrow because it is irritating the heck out of me. I think they will just replace the unit and call it a day. I will be posting an update on this soon.

Well, the dealer didn't call me today. They gave me a G25 which is a piece of crap compared to the G37 I got last time. The 7 speed transmission on the G25 is really weird. There is a lot of hesitation even if I try to accelerate a little bit.

I have the same rattle as you. Do you have a link or a part number for those KYB shocks? And have the rattle came back since the shock replacement? My warranty is up, so i'll probably end up doing this myself.

I forgot to post my update. I got my car back and I thought it was just a loose sub housing but the dealership ended up insulating the entire back area. The sound system sounds so much better with the insulation and there are no more rattles!!! I'm very happy with the results.

Here is where I bought them http://www.amazon.com/KYB-349053-GR...iti|68&Year=2008|2008&vehicleType=5&carId=003

Rattles have not returned since.
