Rear Rattle

That sucks.

BTW I love the kick the M45 has when I am on the FWY and I down shift from 5 to 4th and push it to 110... wow.. this baby is fun to drive.
 
Just got an update, looks like a few more days. They say that the rear of the car has been pretty much taken apart, they replaced the shocks, bumper components, not sure what else but they say the sound is still there. They are now waiting on some parts and will update me later.
 
I would really like to update this thread with a "I got my car back," unfortunately I didn't. Never thought a rattle would take this long, but I'd rather have it fully fixed than not. Can't wait to see what the problem is and hopefully this will help more M drivers in the future.
 
I hope that the crisis in Japan won't effect the outcome for parts availability for your ride.. Keeping my fingers crossed for you
 
Car is now in the body shop, didn't get into details with the person on the phone. It should be interesting to find out what the heck was causing the rattle...
 
Hey there,

Since you removed the entire trunk assembly, will it be possible to access the back of the driver side quarter panel after all the internal trunk pieces are removed?

I want to cut my PDR cost by removing the panels ahead of time to pop out the dent on the quarter panel. The dent is about 1 inch away from my rear driver side door. I am not so certain how they will access this panel.
 
Wish I had my car here, I can't remember. I believe you are not able to reach an inch from the rear passenger door from the trunk, you might have to remove panels on the inside of the cabin instead.

Man, talk about a pain in the ass if I had to remove Cabin pieces. I need some guidance on doing that when you get your baby back. :smile:
 
Finally got it back :running: Rattle is gone.

Looks like they replaced the rear shocks, boots, and mounting brackets. The noise was still there after so then they noticed the rear shock towers flexing with body movement. They removed the rear seats and trunk finishers, removed the shock supports and lower control arms to access and reinforce the shock towers with body panel adhesive. They also put some sound dampening material in the trunk area above the wheel wells.

I don't have a pic of what they did with the shocks or shock towers.
 
You can see the difference on the after, they added some black panel adhesive towards the top and the silver sheeting on the wheel wells. Not sure what they did on the other side, but they did remove some of the interior panels and the rear seats. Plus the shocks and stuff.
