Rear lift gate noise

Initially, I put felt tabs on either side of the latch on the hatch. There are 4 adjustable stops on the hatch (similar to the 2 plastic adjustable stops on the hood but these can be adjusted by hand) that have a nut/bolt that's covered up by the rubber stops on the 1st gen. My hatch was squeaking right at the latch.

You guys are awesome!

Bought some rubber felt and patched up hatch and rubber stoppers. worked like a charm.

Must of been some play between the truck lid and mechanism.

Of-course once you fix one problem theirs one that follows  another trunk noise but different.

When driving 40+ MPH sounds like metal flapping somewhere back there. The best way to describe it is having a stack of dinner plates in the trunk and there shaking around lol.

Anyone have any idea what it might be?

interesting! Can't say I have experienced that before. I would start by checking around the spare tire and make sure nothing is rattling there especially the jack and wrench etc... next I would make sure that the spare tire isn't loose or too Tight.
The fact that this happens as you mentioned at 40+ mph could be due to some vibration causing something to rattle, check your tire pressure and make sure they are inflated right.
good luck, let us know how this turn out!

Thanks abdul, yeah i need to do some more investigation. I already tightened everything up in the spare tire compartment. I may have to check underneath the car see if anything is loose.

I feel like when driving in certain directions i hear it worse, almost like certain wind directions makes it worse so i'm wondering if something is loose somewhere in the rear or undercarriage.

You may find that you've got to get behind interior panels. Oooo...fun!
