Rear Differential / Axle

I was looking into the final drive modification and wanted to swap a AWD read diff to a RWD.
(final drive is changed)

but i noticed the AWD differential cost less than the RWD diff. that leads me to believe the RWD works more like a LSD (?) since AWD would not need that.

any insight would be great

thanks

hey man, sorry delayed on your pm, I'm not sure really, but from what you've just shown I'd say there is a chance that the diff is different awd vs rwd... yeah, the awd used pumpkin will give you the higher gear ratio, but in light of what you've just shown, may not be the only difference...

ya, maybe getting #12 would be better, but more expensive considering the whole rear pumpkin has to be taken apart and rebuilt...

* I called a junkyard that had the rear diff, and they want $900 !

I was talking with the off road truck builder and they do final drive changes all the time... he quoted my ~$160 to do the physical ring and pinion swap . I have to take the pumpkin to him or he would charge me about ~350. I know I would have to get a install kit along with the R&P.

I just want clarification that a 350Z R&P would fit a RWD FX. most sites describe it for a manual transmission only.

I'm looking into LSD's for my awd FX and found a pretty good deal on one locally, but its 3.5 FD. Can I change the FD (from 3.7) in the rear diff without affecting vdc?
