Hey Fellas!

Just picked up an OEM Rear Bumper Protector for the 3rd Gen FX. The curvature matches the 1st Gen, but I'm not sure how I want to position it on the bumper. Closer to the hatch seems appropriate. However, positioning it closer to the edge would seem to function better as a bumper guard.

What do you guys think? Option 1 or Option 2?

TIA

It is meant to protect from you pulling stuff out of the trunk, not if someone runs into you from behind...

Nice upgrade BTW, post some pictures of how this turns out in the end. I have been on the hunt for one of these protectors for months, I don't want to pay $60 for shipping to vancouver and the dealer wants $200 for the damn thing...

Thanks for the opinions, everyone! I agree...position 1 looks so much better.

Yeah...I didn't think it would do much more than protect it during loading and unloading. With the 1st gen's bumper sticking out so much further, the bumper just seems better protected in position 2.

You have a good looking car and #1 looks much better.
I'm glad you're doing this. I've wanted something to protect against doggy paws and have not yet seen the all savior answer.

I placed it along the edge of the bumper ... Here is the pic

You can always get the 3M clearbra material and do a partial area of the back bumper. I have one on my ride, and while mine is old and I hate it now, it looked perfect when it was new...

Think it will hold up to dog claws. I would think the clearbra is too soft.

You would be surprised. I was putting a cabinet (made of walnut) in my trunk and it was really hard to get in by myself so I was resting it on the bumper and the clear bra partially, then the corner caught on the clear bra, and it basically turned into this whole ordeal.

I have had this happen countless times (I used to put my bike in the back of the FX before I got my roof racks). And the clear bra has a ton of marks on it and tons of scuff, in fact it looks horrible, but I know that as soon as I take it off the bumper will look like new.
