Really disappointed with Invidia (failed resonators)

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would share my experience. I got my invidia gemini just over 2 years ago, In the beginning I loved it but several months ago It started getting the "drone" sound and a bassy hollow sound from my exhaust after just dealing with it, it started to really bug me and new I would have to get this looked into. The version I have doesn't have flex pipes but has slip on pipe with springs on it. I took the car to my mechanic and his findings really shocked me considering how the exhaust isn't even that old. The resonators failed and broke apart in there housing. I'm extremely disappointed considering Ive only maybe put 30,000km's on the exhaust. This really sucks. On the bright side it gave me the opportunity to make things to my liking.
I wanted to tone down the exhaust since I was tired of that "drone/bassy sound" (best words that come to my mind to describe) . I had my mechanic order 2 stainless steel flex pipes and 2 vibrant ultra quite resonator. Its was a tight fit but I'm extremely happy with finish and exhaust sound. Outside still sounds great when you hit the throttle and inside the cab just got a whole lot quitter which I'm extremely happy with. Just thought I would share my experience. I upgraded because my factory exhaust needed to be replaced but never did I think I would have to spend money repairing it this soon. Not very happy with there product. I suggest next time you have your car on hoist take a look you might be surprised.

here are pics that I took.

glad you found a better fix for it.. do you have a sound clip of how it sounds now?
I can try to up load one this weekend.

It sounds very similar just a lot quiter and smoother under normal driving. I'm really happy with the mods but it is a little pricey considering there is 2 of everything and got it all tig welded which us time consuming.

^ how much did you pay for that exhaust in the first place when you got it new?

A lot of the times you can get a better exhaust if you go custom from the get go and the sound will depend on the mufflers and resonators you choose. As for the performance, piping is piping, 3" pipe or what ever it is on this exhaust and 3" piping on the custom one is the same.

I got quoted for my TL 800$ for a dual exhaust compared to 1500$ I can order online. I got to choose piping, tips, mufflers, resonator...

I ended spending just under 800. I had option to use cheaper flex pipes and resonator but decided to use good parts. I used 2 vibrant ultra quite resonators and 2 turbo grade flex pipes which are stronger. Plus the Labour to do it all. It was pricey but I'm really with both results visually and sound wise. It only ended up expensive because I had to purchase 2 of each.
