awesome Ed!!!

was she expecting it? You mentioned surprise. Tell us more about the story. Would love to hear it.

Vey nice pickup Ed. A friend of mine picked up a GL63 a little while ago and it is nice (and fast for such a behemoth).

Thanks all.

I was actually in South America and found the car in the US, purchased it over the phone, had it shipped to Chicago at a parent dealership waiting to be picked up. I came back to the states and told my wife we had to go somewhere - she was confused.

We drove to the dealership and she said why are we here. I went inside, signed a paper, walked out with the keys and handed them to her (all happened in under 5 minutes).

She was even more confused and then I pointed to which one was her car (we were at an Infiniti dealership). I think at that point she had a grin across her face that wouldn't go down and starting taking pictures (I don't know - for facebook, instagram, snapchat, text - whatever you kids do these days).

Oh, it's a 2013 GL550 - I was going to get a GL350 for the gas mileage, but I couldn't resist the 21" AMG wheels as you guys have said and also the AMG body kit. I looked into the GL63, but that is just plain crazy (price). I didn't even know this GL550 is a V8 bi-turbo, so that's plenty fast for her.

2013 was perfect, depreciated a ton, bought an extended 7 year warranty (4 year factory + 3 year extended) 100,000 miles. Has nearly every option except for Designo leather (I wish it had it) and on/off road package.

I forgot how expensive these are to maintain, it's at the dealership with the 20,000 service which cost $1,200 =) I don't dare take this anywhere else to void the warranty and want the service history in the MB system.

Now she has her toy, it's really time for my QX56... all in due time.

Oh yeah the price of a GL63 is insane. Not sure if it's worth paying that much over a 550. You made a wise choice with the MY2013 as well.

Wow, this is awesome Ed. Very nice. :good:

Very tough choice between the Infiniti QX80 Limited (the semi-aniline leather seating interior it quite amazing) and the Mercedes GL. For the money and reliability - QX80 is as clear winner. Fortunately, there is a extended 7 year, 100,000 mile factory MB warranty you can purchase.

Still no Infiniti in the family, but a QX56 is still on the radar for my daily driver once I can get rid of this minivan for good.

Ended up surprising the wife with this last night:

Thx Wayne...yeah I actually never liked the chrome ones so I ordered one and had it sandblasted and powdercoated black. Now when I take it off to do work sometimes...my car looks naked lol. Love the aggressive look it gives and it actually also tightens up the front...can feel it when cornering.
