I purchased the signature edition 2016 Qx80 Majestic white, I'm the first owner but I've been noticing several issues , I always owned brand new vehicles in that price range and lower and NEVER had any similar issue. I'm kinda disappointed for the fact when you pay close to $70,000 for a vehicle you should expect an excellent quality product. My issues are the following :
1. Paint chipping ,(100% not from road stones ) the chipping started after couple of months , I have one chip at hood , one chip at the right rear door , one under the 5.6 lettering on the right side , one chip on the roof infront of the glass sunroof window.
2. Rust tiny dots at the rear bumper and trunk , I showed it to Infiniti Chantilly and the manager was nice to polish it for free but now after couple months it's showing again (100% not from snow , we had no snow this year ) no way it's from the salt because I garage keep my SUV , and it's not even a one year old paint so that's a shock to deal with such issues.
3. I fill premium gas all the time but for a 5.6 engine i was expecting a much aggressive kick.
4. Transmission hesitation when you go from 35 mph to 45 mph.
5. My wife complained about The steering wheel leather color fading , it looked healthier 5 months ago , now its like blue-ish faded instead of black.
6. A/C cooling don't feel 70 degree it feels warmer so I have to lower it to the 60's to feel the chill.
7. I check the oil level regularly. I hear a weird valves grinding when the car on the remote start mode. But when I step in and press the start button the ticking noise seems to disappear.

Don't want to sound picky but really I was expecting more for this price bracket. The Chantilly Infiniti are very nice and friendly and they really have an excellent service but my complain is from the vehicle itself. Anyone notices such issues or I'm very unlucky to really get lots of issues in one vehicle.

Hey there, I own a 2010 QX56 and I can relate to your issues to some extent. But this is what I know from my personal experience:
1. Paint chipping is quite common these vehicles due to their large body. So it's exposed to more road debris compared to a G37 in that sense. I have gotten many paint chips on my truck mostly on the front hood and bumper on highway driving. You can counter this issue by going to the dealership and having them "Touch-Up" the paint chips. Or a better investment would be to install a "Clear Paint Protection" film on the front of the vehicle which prevents rock chipping but it is more expensive.

2. I actually started to grow a rust spot on my roof for no apparent reason. Having that said, my QX isn't garaged like yours but I always have it cleaned and waxed. But it still doesn't make sense for a Infiniti flagship vehicle to encounter rust issues.

3. Premium gas is recommended for maximum performance. Considering yours has 400 Horsepower you still have to consider that the QX80 weights nearly 6,000 pounds. So you really don't have that kick but it does get up and go when you want it to.

4. Never encountered this problem.

5. This is probably due to the steering wheel being exposed to direct sunlight and high temperature on the inside of the vehicle. You can counter this situation by getting a window shade for your front window and cracking the window open just a little bit during the summer heat. Most likely you that original black color on the steering wheel won't return but you can prevent further damage by applying a leather conditioner.

6. That's not really an issue, that's just how the car was made. My A/C acts the same way, I usually keep it on Auto at 62 degrees.

7. Since I don't have a remote-start feature I never had this issue. Your best bet would be to check it out from your dealership.

I totally agree with you, I expected more from such a high end luxury truck from the problems I've encountered. This would probably be my last Infiniti, I'm considering in purchasing a German vehicle (Audi X7, BMW X7, Mercedes GLS) for my next purchase due to better quality. Of course there's a higher price to pay but you still have that piece of mind and quality from German vehicles. In your case, your vehicle is still covered by the original factory warranty so you don't have to worry much about your QX80. Aside from that, the QX80 is a great truck on road and even off-road. It handles well on the highways and makes long trips a pleasure. So I hope I helped you out, good luck with your Infiniti!!

Thank you for your reply , sad to say I feel the same , Qx80 is a unique looking vehicle and my wife love it , but I don't think I would get another Qx :( and I'll speak to the service manager to buff again an check for update or recalls hoping this would fix the issues.

I've heard about the paint chipping issue from several on here and from a couple of friends who own that model.

Welcome to :iS2:

They have to work on getting a better paint formula , I had many cars and never had this problem.
