Hey all,
About me
I'm Aleks from Bulgaria, and for about a year now the unexpectedly proud owner of a 2014 QX70S 30d. I used to drive a 2005 Toyota Rav4 2.2d and didn't really know anything about cars when I started looking for a replacement. Originally I was going after RR Evoques, as it was genuinely the only SUV whose design I liked. But after a disappointing few months of failing to find one that wasn't falling apart (was looking at 50-75k mile ones), I accidentally happened upon a QX70 on sale. Up until then I had not even remembered Infiniti exists, and, in fact, was convinced it was Volvo's luxury brand. I immediately fell in love with its styling and, soon enough, drove away on it from its visibly saddened previous owner.
Since then, the car has inspired me to learn much more about the FX/QX70s and, by extension, motor vehicles in general. I won't be exaggerating that my YouTube is now 90% car-related suggestions, haha. The downside of this has been the realization that Renault's V9X diesel engine that powers my car is far from the true spirit of the vehicle that lies in the 3.7 and 5.0 petrol engines.
About my Infiniti
Indeed, there's notably less sportiness in feeling power only in the narrow band of 2000 and 4000 RPM. And the 238 horses do start panting above 50mph, gasing out completely at 135mph. But the handling is still a dream and the acceleration 0-40 is actually quite beastly (550nm of torque at 2500 RPM), which happens to be the most common "pulls" I'm able to do in my area. I've also heard turbo diesels can be quite effectively tuned, so maybe when it's not my only car, I could give that a try.
It's also a peculiar "Black Carbon" limited edition that seems to have been made exclusively for Bulgaria (maybe some other eastern EU countries, but I've only been able to find a single mention of it online on a Bulgarian website). Though "made" is a strong word for what feels more like a cosmetic modification.
Basically, what Nissan seems to have done is taken a hundred diesel QX70s and added the following carbon fiber bits: front splitter, rear diffuser, housings for DLR lights on the sides of the lower front bumper, tailgate spoiler, headlight shades, trim plate that encompasses the seat heating knobs, the ashtray front trim, and a limited edition sticker next to the door lock indicator.
These extra parts seem to be real carbon fiber, but not of the highest quality (quite flimsy). The way they've been installed also feels a bit DIY-y and not in the good sense. I honestly think Nissan just sent these parts to the dealer in Bulgaria and they were installed here rather than the factory. Probably in an attempt to sell off the stock as Infiniti pulled out of EU. I do think they make the car look a smidge cooler, without really disrupting the original silhouette, unlike most aftermarket body kits.
Conclusion
I've lurked this forum for quite some time now and it's proven an invaluable source of information. Finally decided to officially "join" as I now feel I have enough experience with the car to give something back to the community, especially on the far less common diesel variant. Would love to know if there's anyone else on here rattling about on a 30d.
