Question regarding adding subwoofer to stock system

sorry if this is talked about elsewhere, but i have the stock bose system w/ navi. If i add my PPI amp and a JL sub, will the sound of the bass go down with the rest of the system when im using the navigation and trying to listen to commands? I like how it works now and the radio lowers itself to hear the directions, didn't know if the bass will go down with it. Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

I think the front speakers cut out when nav commands come on leaving the rear speakers at normal volume. Verify this by playing around with the balance/fade. I'm sure some of the audio guys can chime in with more.

yes the front cuts off and the rear lowers in volume. I went to a audio place and asked them if they added the sub will the volume of the sub go down with the rest of the rear speakers and he simply said "good question, i don't know." So im holding off on the install till i verify this info. I'll go elsewhere too and ask them.

Setting the fader to rear on our systems automatically cuts the bass volume. For whatever reason Bose set it up this way. Setting fader to front gives full signal to the subwoofer, but obviously you lose the rear speaks.

As for the Navi...I can't remember if it cuts volume. I know the voice command only comes out of the center channel. But I LONG ago muted the voice....just too annoying for me.

...

I'm 90% sure mine works the opposite way you've described. Whenever our dogs are in the back I set the fader to the front to cut the sub signal. With my amplified sub the effect is exceedingly noticeable... I may be confused, I'll have to check it out tomorrow to confirm.

Lude - I gotcho answer, baby!

The answer is yes, you can make the new sub behave exactly like the old one did if you use the same signal wires from the original sub.

I have an aftermarket sub and amp set up this way and from playing around with the system, I've learned that the sub is tied to the rear channel. Fade to the back and the sub is more prominent. Fade to the front and it disappears completely. So I'm with Tchuck on this one - I think Toy4x might have reversed what he meant to say?

If you run wires from your head unit, I don't really know if it would work the same way but since the old sub harness is already there, just use the audio signal, power & ACC from that and you're golden.

Tchuck and Turbo are correct....sorry for the wrong info.

I haven't been driving the FX lately...today was the first day in a month my wifey let me drive it to work and confirmed my mistake. I knew it cut off the sub one way or the other.

The line levels going into the sub are already low level (rca)....splicing into sub harness to get input levels and acc are all that is required. Besides ground and power lines.
