Question on the IBA System...

Okay, folks...one more n00b question for the FX50:

According to the manual (page 2-44), the IBQ system "will sound a warning chime to alert the driver when the vehicle is traveling too close to the vehicle ahead and will apply the brake control if necessary."

Here's the thing: from my 2 weeks owning the car, having the IBA on (I've never disabled it), the car has NEVER braked on its own for me. The only way to get the FX to brake for me on its own and in the way the manual describes it is if I have the DCA enabled. Only then, with the DCA enabled, will the FX brake if it feels the vehicle ahead is too close.

I have spoken to the dealership on this and they have indicated that you need to enable DCA to get auto-braking.

So, is the manual wrong or does my car have a problem?

Thanks in advance!

Yes you must have your DCA turned on. My car alarms if I approach a car ahead of me quickly and get to close. Apparently at the last minute it will brake if impact is imminent, I do not want to test this feature, because as I read it in the manual, it will lessen the impact but not necessarily avoid it.

On the other hand with ICC and DCA on your car will maintain the speed you set, unless the car ahead of you is slower, then when you reach your set distance from him it will follow at that distance and go the same speed as him. If he stops ahead of you the FX will stop by itself without you braking. Once he is gone it will go from a standing stop back up to your set cruise speed by itself.

It's awesome, I love it.
I have tested this many times and it works.

Thanks for the info, man!

So, basically, the IBA does work on its own (without enabling DCA)...but, it may not be worth trying because the autobraking is only in the last split second.

I think the car manual should be more clear on that.

Another question!

The weather up here has been rough lately. Yesterday, there were flurries and SOME melting of snow on the roads...

Anyhow, the "IBA Off" indicator light came on yesterday on the way home. Then, just to see how things are, I turned on the DCA and the system said to clean the sensors. Well, as I got out of the car later on to pick up some groceries, the area where the sensor is looked okay.

I picked up my stuff and then was on my way again. None of the indicators turned on. About 1 km into my drive, the IBA Off indicator turns on again and the same warning when I toggle the DCA on the steering wheel.

And this morning, I drove all the way to work (about a 40 minute commute)...and no issues.

What happened? Was it because of the snowfall (it wasn't snowing THAT heavily though) yesterday? Or something else?

It probably had a bit of snow or slush/ice/water on it. Mine has done the same thing.

the radar sensor is affected by rain & snow & the systems won't work in those conditions, it's normal...

I was guessing if it was in heavy snowfall, yes. But yesterday, it was just some flurries...nothing big.

But, thanks! It's good to know it's not something I need to bring it in for repairs on.

The sensor is also affected by bright light, so if you're driving towards the sun when it's low in the sky, IBA will turn off. Took me forever to figure this out, I think I read it somewhere on here actually.

I have actually experienced the IBA system... it was during an emergency braking... I had LDW and FCW off. IBA always stays on ... The car in front of me hit their brakes really hard and then i reacted by hitting my brakes not near as hard and the car came very very close to theirs and all of a sudden i felt a lot of extra braking pressure kick in without me doing anything and it actually braked the FX50S MORE... i was still going to miss hitting the car but it was nice to know it kicked in extra braking pressure near the last second. Pretty neat stuff! Also, DCA was off too.

AWESOME! Great to know...heaven't experienced that yet and hope I never will, but definitely awesome to know it's there!
