Quad Projectors Possible?

He did mention it. So I'm going to finish the project up, then before I put it all back together mess with the shield to get the best color/cutoff. Since I'm going to disassemble all 4 projectors to paint the shields, I might as well tweak the cutoff.

Nice progression. So did Matt at Restrofit mention of playing (bending the shield after the cut to get a really sharp cutoff line and color? Like your idea of "hexa" projector. Yeah, those xB LED are super bright. I have a set in hand. Just need time to put it in my headlights.

I wonder painting the shield would have any affect on the light color and output. I you can take some before and after shoots of the painted shield for comparison.

Will do. From everything I've read, it will do nothing to the color or output. On certain shields, painting the top edge black can sharpen the cutoff a little bit. But it doesn't have the same effect on every shield. I'm just painting the front for looks so it shouldn't do anything to the light.

Finally got the OEM shroud cut out. Now that I know where to make the cuts, I could do it again in about 15 minutes instead of 10 days.

When you grafted the bezels and shrouds together, what did you use? Regular plastic epoxy and body filler? I'm about to get started on that, but wasn't sure if the heat from the projectors would cause any issues.

jb plastic puddy and jb weld to fill in the cracks. seems to be fine so far.

Yet so far... Just a test fit to see if the shrouds clear the lens cover and fortunately they do. Ignore the hazy lens, it's being dropped off next week to be polished and cleared. Now I need to trim a little more on the shrouds so they sit ~1/4" further back then mold them in. After that, it's molding in LED's to replace the turn signals. Actually looking forward to that part.

Looks really good!! Watching. I finally baked my lights today and popped in tsx-r clear lens'. Still working on painting them.

So I just figured out I have the post recall projectors since I have the V shield. So since I'm using the tsxr lens , I need to remove the v shield? I never heard of doing this which is why I thought that was the point of buying either the fx-r lens (precall) or tsx-r lens (post recall) . Will it make a difference either way if I don't remove the v shield?

So I went to the Retrofit Source (right down the street from me) and picked up some TSX-R clear lenses. I had wanted FX-R (which apparently they do still have), but since I had post recall projectors, I ended up with the TSX-R. Matt down there was super cool and gave me a tour of their shop which is very impressive. Here's a pic of the TSX-R lens vs. OEM. OEM is on the left, it's very hard to tell the difference, but it is there.

According to Matt, it's a pretty simple mod to install the TSX lens. They're the same size as OEM. So pretty much just pop the projector cover off first. In this pic, you can see the little V shaped portion in front of the projector shield. That has to be removed.



To cut the V shaped piece off, you have to pull the shield from the projector (only held in by 2 screws).

Anyone have input on whether i need to remove the "V" shield with the TSX-r clear lens before I seal the lights back up?

i didn't remove mine but you MUST play with the shield. If not, the output will be all over the place.

Thanks. May sound like a dumb question but how do I test the lighting without hooking the ballast back up to the car? Just a 12v battery charger ?

According to Matt at TRS, you need to remove the V shield. He said if you did that, you wouldn't have to play with the rest of the shield. But I guess Viperi didn't, so there are different ways to do it. And a 12V charger should work.

As an update, this project is still ongoing. Just been very busy travelling for work and started modding my loft again so free time is minimal. I'm reworking a bunch of stuff, the original idea required a bit too much filler. So there will still be "hexa" projectors and new turn signals, but in a more minimal design. I've got a bunch of vacation days left, so I may take some and get this done by year end.

Me too...Hopefully I'll have some progress pics this weekend. I should be taking Friday off to get some stuff done, and I'm hoping to get 1 headlight mostly done. Still waiting on some LED's, but I'd like to get everything done other than that.

No updates, I'm sort of back and forth between two ideas right now. The first is what I have posted so far, with the new shrouds being molded onto the bezels. Upside is that it looks more OEM/finished. Downside is that there is so much cutting/molding that you really don't see much of the aftermarket shroud...and there is so much cutting and molding. Also, the aftermarket shroud will leave a bigger gap to the OEM projector since I have to have clearance for levelling when compared to aftermarket projector. Second version is total removal of the factory bezel and just mount the shrouds directly onto the projectors. When everything is painted black, you don't see the projector bodies. Much less cutting, but a slightly more "raw" look but the chrome shrouds are much more prominent. Right now, I'm leaning more toward the second version. Since either way involved new LED turn signals, I'm not worried about not having the factory bezel.

I'll try to get some work done and get pics up soon. I got some 2.5" PVC pipe which will allow me to space out the projector lens from the turn signal. So that's about all I've done lately. If I'm lucky, I'll have that cut and epoxied tonight or tomorrow. My loft is consuming all my free time right now.
